About the Team

Responsible for overseeing the tax compliance, planning, and tax due-diligence for GOAT Group, the Tax team is essential to each department and their respective business goals. The Tax team collaborates with stakeholders, both internal and external, to ensure the financial health of the company through accurate and timely tax filings, advising on strategic business decisions, and maintaining compliance with federal, state, and international laws and regulations.

Role Overview:

We are looking for a Tax intern to support the Tax Team on many of our day-to-day business operations while also working on many of the tax initiatives that impact the business. You will also participate in job shadowing, mentorship, and other tax/finance exploration and preparation activities with the Tax Team while working with Finance Teams and other stakeholders. Most importantly, you will develop knowledge and gain experience (both soft skills and technical skills) in how the Tax Team functions with exposure to the various operations and positions it manages, and how Tax is valued in both Finance and the Business world.

In this role, you will:

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with teams in Accounting, Legal, Finance, and other departments to discuss Tax implications on various business transactions
  • Learn and be exposed to different aspects of taxation: domestic tax, state taxes, and international tax and how it impacts business decisions
  • Support the Tax Team with preparation of tax calculations and workpapers for Federal and State Tax Returns, 1099-Ks,  property, sales and use, VAT, unclaimed property, and other regulatory filings as needed
  • Research tax technical matters using tax research tools and writing memorandums to document  and defend tax positions based on business updates
  • Demonstrate flexibility in prioritizing and completing tasks while exercising professional skepticism
  • Assist the Tax Team with financial assurance, including proper documentation of Tax Controls and internal audits
  • Respond to communications from federal, state, and local taxing authorities
  • Work with Accounting and Finance teams on monthly end-close support
  • Conduct due diligence to identify tax exposure on various business initiatives / transactions

We are looking for:

  • No Tax experience required; just a curiosity for tax and how it connects with the business
  • At least 1 business course in Accounting or Tax
  • Business-oriented and curious about learning and gaining industry knowledge
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office (Word and Excel)
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new information as it relates to improving processes
  • Open to ambiguity and learning new concepts
  • Must be independent, self-motivated, and success-driven, yet willing to work within a cross-functional team environment.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented

The hiring range for this position is below, plus benefits (401K, paid time off, dental, medical, vision, disability, life insurance options). To determine starting pay within the hiring range, we carefully consider a variety of factors, including primary work location, role/level, a candidate’s skills, experience, market demands, and internal parity. You may reach out to a recruiter for additional information.

Hiring Range:

$18$24 USD

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
