The Opportunity:

MGO is seeking an experienced Tax Director, High Net Worth Tax to join our growing Los Angeles practice. This is an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned public accounting professional with extensive experience advising high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals, families, family offices, entrepreneurs, and closely held business owners.


The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in complex individual taxation, estate and gift planning, trusts, pass-through entities, and wealth preservation strategies, along with strong leadership and business development capabilities.


This role offers a clear and defined path to Partner for a proven leader who demonstrates excellence in client service, team development, practice growth, and market leadership. Directors at MGO operate at a Partner-equivalent level and play a critical role in shaping the future of the firm's growth and success.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and review complex tax engagements for high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals, trusts, estates, family offices, and closely held businesses.
  • Provide strategic tax planning and consulting related to wealth preservation, estate and gift taxation, succession planning, and income tax optimization.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and primary relationship manager for clients and their external advisors.
  • Oversee multiple engagements simultaneously, ensuring quality, timeliness, profitability, and exceptional client service.
  • Research and resolve sophisticated federal, state, and local tax matters.
  • Mentor, develop, and inspire managers, seniors, and staff across technical and leadership competencies.
  • Drive business development initiatives, cultivate referral sources, identify new opportunities, and expand existing client relationships.
  • Contribute to firm leadership through collaboration, innovation, and strategic planning.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field required; Master's degree in Taxation (MST) preferred.
  • CPA license required.
  • 10+ years of public accounting experience, including significant experience serving high-net-worth individuals and families.
  • Strong expertise in individual, trust, estate, gift, partnership, and pass-through entity taxation.
  • Proven success in client relationship management, business development, and practice growth.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage complex client engagements.
  • Strong technical, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed, including occasional overnight travel.

Compensation: $180,000 - $250,000 base salary, plus eligibility for a performance-based bonus of up to 15% of base salary, as well as additional variable compensation opportunities.
