Job Summary
As an On-Site Select-Time Tax Associate, you will serve as the local face of our tax services, providing a trusted, welcoming experience for walk-in and scheduled clients. This role combines tax expertise with an entrepreneurial, community-driven spirit. You will work on-site from a local retail office to prepare simple-to-complex tax returns, provide face-to-face (and occasionally virtual) tax advice, and actively engage with the local community to help grow our client base.
Key Responsibilities
- Tax Preparation & Advice: Conduct thorough, professional tax interviews with clients. Prepare and complete accurate federal and state individual income tax returns (Form 1040) and associated schedules.
- Customer Experience: Deliver a best-in-class customer experience by breaking down complex tax codes into clear, personalized everyday language. Relieve customer stress and build long-term multi-year relationships.
- Community & Brand Ambassador: Enthusiastically represent the company locally. Participate in local marketing efforts, greet walk-in retail traffic, and engage with prospective clients to convert them into loyal customers.
- Tax Review & Optimization: Facilitate discovery sessions to uncover deductions, maximize refunds, minimize tax liabilities, and offer basic year-round tax planning advice.
- Audit & Tech Support: Provide clients with basic audit support guidance and accurately navigate company-specific tax software, CRM tools, and payment processing systems.
Core Skills & Qualifications
- Tax Experience: Minimum 1–3 years of experience filing individual federal and state tax returns preferred (or successful completion of an approved standard Income Tax Course / Tax Knowledge Assessment).
- Active PTIN: Must possess or be able to obtain an active Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) from the IRS. Relevant state licenses (e.g., CTEC in California) if required by law.
- Customer Service Excellence: A friendly, professional, and empathetic demeanor with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Tech Savvy: Proficient with Windows-based computer systems, tax software, digital filing systems, and basic office hardware.
- Entrepreneurial Mindset: Highly self-driven with a business-ownership mentality to proactively manage your seasonal client portfolio.
- Flexibility: Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment with a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends during peak tax weeks.
