Intuit

Position Summary

This is a seasonal or part-time remote (or hybrid/retail depending on location) position where you will act as a trusted advisor to TurboTax customers. You will provide customized tax advice, guide customers through the use of the TurboTax software, review self-prepared tax returns, and—for qualifying advanced tiers—prepare, sign, and file returns on behalf of clients. Using our secure video and audio communication tools, you will deliver exceptional service in personalized, everyday language.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Expert Consultation: Provide live, proactive tax advice and preparation services to TurboTax clients, handling simple to complex tax scenarios (including personal income, sole proprietorship/1099, investment, and multi-state filing).
  • Virtual Customer Delivery: Connect with customers face-to-face via Intuit’s proprietary live video-chat platform. Help customers navigate software entries, troubleshoot obstacles, and confidently complete their returns.
  • Quality Review & Sign-Off: Review customer-inputted tax data to optimize deductions, minimize liabilities, maximize refunds, and ensure zero calculation errors. When required by the product queue, complete, sign, and formally file federal and state returns.
  • California Compliance Monitoring: Apply a deep and up-to-date understanding of federal tax codes alongside California-specific tax laws (including Franchise Tax Board regulations, state tax credits, and community property state rules).
  • Continuous Learning: Participate in up to 17 days of paid, remote system and product training to master the virtual platform, AI assistive tools, and internal tax research databases.

Minimum Requirements

  • Active Unrestricted Credential: Must possess an active and unrestricted credential: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Enrolled Agent (EA), or Practicing Attorney.
  • IRS Filing Authority: Must hold an active Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN).
  • Experience: Minimum of 2–3 seasons of paid professional tax preparation experience, with a proven track record of filing a minimum of 30+ returns per season.
  • California Regulatory Alignment: Must possess or be capable of maintaining any required California state registrations, certificates, or bonds (e.g., adherence to California Board of Accountancy or CTEC guidelines where applicable).
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong computer skills, including the ability to seamlessly toggle between proprietary tax software, CRM tools, video communication platforms, and internal research databases.
  • Communication Acumen: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a customer-centric, professional, and friendly on-camera demeanor. (Bilingual English/Spanish is a highly preferred asset).

Remote & Workspace Requirements

  • Dedicated Space: Access to a quiet, private, and secure workspace free from distractions or background noise to maintain strict client confidentiality.
  • Internet Connectivity: High-speed internet connection via a hard-wired Ethernet cable directly to the home router (minimum 20 Mbps download/upload; Wi-Fi alone is generally not sufficient for video streaming stability).
  • Provided Equipment: Intuit will ship all necessary hardware, including an Intuit-secured laptop, webcam, USB headset, and required connection cables. Use of personal equipment for customer data management is strictly prohibited.
  • Availability: Ability to commit to a flexible schedule of at least 20 hours per week (in minimum 4-hour shifts) during core business operating hours (7 days a week, 5:00 AM – 9:00 PM PT) throughout the peak tax season.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: $31.00 – $36.00/hour (Note: Exact hourly wages vary depending on regional California locality, cost-of-living adjustments, and credential level).
    • Business Tax Track: $39.00 – $42.00 per hour
    • Note: Final hourly rates within these ranges will be discussed and finalized upon successful completion of credential verification.
    • Compensation is tiered based on the specialized business unit and verified certifications:
  • Performance Bonuses: Eligible for a performance-based bonus paid out at the end of the tax season, determined by customer satisfaction metrics, issue resolution rates, and contract completion.
  • Perks: Access to the Intuit Expert Network, paid continuous professional education (CPE) training, 401(k) matching eligibility, and participation in the Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
