The US Indirect Tax Analyst will be part of the Global Tax team within the Global Finance function, which ensures the accuracy and integrity of tax matters for all Yahoo entities.
This position can be based in the Columbus, OH area or Reston, VA, and will report to the Senior Indirect Tax Manager(who is remote in the Columbus, OH area). It will be focused on owning all aspects of US indirect tax compliance, including data extraction, managing outside service providers, reviewing returns, account reconciliations, and ensuring timely filing of each return, along with ad hoc projects that may arise. This position will also provide some support to the international indirect tax team as needed. The ideal candidate will have experience in US sales and use tax, gross receipt tax filings, and business personal property tax (including fixed asset reconciliation), have excellent communication skills, and very strong attention to detail.
Main Responsibilities:
Own the monthly close process: Prepare account recs, and journal entries. You will be responsible for identifying variances, investigating root causes, and resolving discrepancies in the general ledger
Oversee the end-to-end US indirect tax compliance process. You will manage data extraction and reconciliation, review returns prepared by our Outside Service Providers (OSPs) for accuracy, and ensure all filing deadlines are met without exception.
Ensure accuracy in our property tax filings by reconciling current year filings to prior year filings, paying close attention to fixed asset changes, acquisitions, and disposals. This is critical for maintaining consistency and minimizing audit risk
Oversee the indirect tax compliance tracker and escalate to relevant person if deadlines are approaching and action is required
Build strong relationships with other Finance functions e.g. Finance Systems, Accounts Payable, Billing, serving as a subject matter expert by independently conducting taxability research for complex or non-standard invoices and transactions
Take a lead role, under the supervision of the Senior Indirect Tax Manager, in gathering data and formulating responses for indirect tax audits. You will proactively identify risk areas in our data before they become audit issues
Work on ad-hoc projects as required
Identify and implement indirect tax process improvements
Required Education / Experience / Skills:
CMI, CPA, or working towards certification
3+ years of accounting experience within an accountancy firm or multinational environment preferable
Experience in indirect tax compliance across the US, including BPP and Gross Receipts Tax filings
Experience in international indirect tax compliance an advantage
Possess strong verbal and written communication skills necessary to articulate complex tax concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Analytical and highly organized individual who can manage competing priorities, work independently, and meet critical statutory and internal deadlines without constant supervision
Exhibit excellent problem-solving skills combined with a meticulous attention to detail to ensure the accuracy and integrity of all filings, reconciliations, and research documentation
Strong Microsoft Excel knowledge required, including pivot tables, vlookups, and other similar functions
Familiarity with ERP systems a plus e.g. Oracle
Familiarity with Vertex a plus
Familiarity with a tax research software, such as BNA

The compensation for this position ranges from $56,250.00 - $117,500.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
