Job Description Summary:

Fenwick is seeking a Tax Analyst who will be responsible for the preparation and support of federal, state and local tax filings for the firm and any necessary research into new state tax issues. This position will support the annual investment partnership audit and involves working with the Controller on the administration, accounting, and reporting of partners’ compensation and related tax issues.
This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, allowing you to work both from home and at your designated Fenwick office. The frequency of in-office work will be determined by business needs and guided by your department's directives.

Job Description:

  • Calculate monthly partner compensation including various deductions; record same in General ledger; maintain and produce all partner distribution reporting.
  • Timely prepare and file monthly/quarterly various state taxes, such as Washington Excise tax, Seattle Business Occupancy Tax, NY commercial rent tax, Hawaii GET tax, and other state/local taxes.
  • Responsible for firm annual personal property tax, sales and use tax as well as environmental tax for all office locations.
  • Maintain and track other state and local tax requirements in connection with having remote employees in those states.
  • Research various State tax filing requirements for firm; track nexus determination and ensure appropriate reporting; work with outside Tax Advisors on State filing requirements and make recommendations for and implement the go forward treatment. 
  • Provide analysis on annual employees’ work location surveys for SF and NYC to support tax filing for related location.
  • Prepare comprehensive analysis on meals and entertainment expenses pursuant to IRS’s deductibility guidelines.
  • Assist in the preparation of Firm Federal and State K-1’s
  • Provide tax estimates and analysis for firm and individual partners as requested.
  • Maintain partner capital account records and analysis; design and prepare annual capital statements to be posted on the Partner Secure Site.
  • Assist with annual budgets for all tax expenses accounts as well as prepare Budget Actual Variance reports for same.
  • Oversee audit request for Personal Property tax audit as well as other local tax from taxing authorities.
  • Serve as a backup and provide support for the Investment Manager.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Proficient in MS Office, with advanced Excel skills, and ability to quickly learn new and changing technologies.
  • Strong client service orientation.

Reporting to the Controller, the qualified candidate will have 3-5 years of tax filing/accounting, state and local tax research and data analysis experience. Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or related field required.

The anticipated range for this position is:

$84,000 - $120,000

Depending on the role, the actual base salary offered may depend upon a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.

A discretionary bonus for eligible employees may also be available based on performance.  Additional information about employee eligibility for benefits and discretionary bonus will be made available upon request.
