Overview:
Expression is seeking a skilled Systems Engineer to join our team in a hybrid capacity (2–3 days per week onsite). This role is ideal for a proactive problem-solver who thrives in complex enterprise environments and is passionate about designing, implementing, and supporting secure, scalable, and resilient infrastructure solutions.
The Systems Engineer will be responsible for the provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, maintenance, and optimization of enterprise storage, backup, and disaster recovery solutions across on-premises and government cloud environments. This role provides technical leadership and hands-on support throughout the planning, implementation, and ongoing operation of infrastructure systems.
The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess requirements, improve system reliability and performance, conduct technical research, and ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards. The Systems Engineer will also develop technical documentation, communicate project status and objectives to stakeholders, and contribute to continuous infrastructure modernization efforts.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, integrate, and manage enterprise storage arrays, Fibre Channel switches, backup solutions, and related infrastructure components.
- Administer and maintain enterprise backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions to ensure mission continuity and operational objectives are achieved.
- Monitor, test, and report on data restoration and disaster recovery capabilities; identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies.
- Research, evaluate, and implement file-sharing and storage technologies to meet customer and business requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve advanced storage, backup, and data protection issues.
- Perform routine equipment inspections, preventative maintenance, and system health assessments.
- Conduct storage capacity planning, utilization analysis, and performance optimization activities.
- Develop, maintain, and review technical documentation, including system configurations, operational procedures, implementation plans, test plans, and results.
- Create and maintain policies and procedures supporting storage, backup, and disaster recovery operations.
- Research emerging technologies and recommend enhancements to improve infrastructure performance, security, scalability, and reliability.
- Ensure systems and processes comply with organizational standards, cybersecurity requirements, and applicable regulatory frameworks.
- Communicate technical concepts, project status, risks, and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Minimum Experience & Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional engineering experience supporting enterprise storage and backup technologies.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with enterprise SAN (Storage Area Network) management to include capabilities and technologies such as: Fiber Channel zoning, iSCSI, FCoE (Fiber Channel over Ethernet) unified fabric, HBA/CNA (Host Bus Adapter/Converged Network Adapter), storage controllers, and LUN (Logical Unit Number), RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks), and file sharing / NAS (Network Addressable Storage).
- 2+ years of hands-on enterprise SAN experience, including:
- Fibre Channel zoning, iSCSI, FCoE
- HBA/CNA, storage controllers, LUNs
- RAID, NAS, and file-sharing technologies
- Two (2) years hands-on experience working with Department of Defense (DoD) IT systems.
- Hands-on experience with enterprise hierarchical storage system management; operation of enterprise backup/restore services, using software such as Veritas NetBackup.
- Experience operating enterprise backup and restore solutions such as:
- Veritas NetBackup
- AWS Backup
- Azure Recovery Services / Site Recovery.in
Security & Certification Requirements
- Active Secret clearance (or higher)
- Sensitivity Level: IT-I – Critical Sensitive (Tier 5 / SSBI)
- IA Level: IAT II - Security +
- 2+ years supporting Department of Defense (DoD) IT systems
- Preferred certifications include:
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
- NetApp Certified Hybrid Cloud Administrator / Cloud Architect / Implementation Engineer
Salary Range:
- 85,000 - 120,000 depending on factors such as experience level, locality pay and the remote/hybrid/on-site schedule
