Systems Architect

Position Overview

Oxx Talent Consulting is partnering with a global automotive software company with approximately 500 to 1,000 employees on a Senior Systems Architect search. The company is undertaking a major modernization initiative, rebuilding a customer-facing SaaS/e-commerce platform as a cloud-native AWS environment and ultimately transitioning away from its existing physical data center footprint.

This is a senior, hands-on individual contributor role for someone who can independently assess the current environment, help define the future-state infrastructure, and carry that work through execution. The role will also provide mentorship to a junior team member and may help direct external consulting resources.

The broader modernization effort is already underway, with engineering and architecture teams rebuilding the platform. This role will take ownership of key aspects of the infrastructure supporting that transition, helping determine how the current environment should translate into the cloud and carrying that work through implementation.

This is an especially strong fit for someone who came up through hands-on systems and infrastructure administration and has since developed meaningful cloud architecture and migration experience.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

• Help assess the current physical and colocation infrastructure and define how workloads, networking, security, and supporting services should transition into AWS.
• Architect and execute key components of the data center-to-cloud migration.
• Support the existing Windows Server environment while the migration is underway.
• Design and troubleshoot hybrid connectivity, networking, firewalls, routing, DNS, VPNs, and related infrastructure.
• Help establish scalable cloud infrastructure and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Partner closely with software architects, engineers, and other technical stakeholders across the modernization program.
• Help scope and direct work performed by external consulting partners when additional support is needed.

Required Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with Windows Server infrastructure in production environments.
• Experience working with physical or colocation data center infrastructure.
• Meaningful experience with cloud migration or infrastructure modernization, ideally involving the movement of on-premises workloads into AWS or another major public cloud.
• Strong experience with AWS or Azure. AWS is preferred, but substantial Azure experience is highly transferable.
• Solid networking fundamentals, including areas such as firewalls, routing, DNS, VPNs, segmentation, and hybrid connectivity.
• Broad systems and infrastructure experience with the ability to troubleshoot across multiple technical domains.
• Experience both designing solutions and helping implement them.
• Comfort working autonomously within a small technical team and taking ownership from assessment through execution.
• Clear technical communication and an interest in mentoring less experienced engineers.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with any of the following would be useful, but we are not looking for someone who checks every box:

• Direct on-premises or data center-to-cloud migration experience
• AWS infrastructure including EC2, VPC, IAM, load balancing, DNS, and related services
• Active Directory, IIS, and Group Policy
• Terraform, CloudFormation, or other infrastructure-as-code tools
• Cloudflare, AWS WAF, or similar firewall/WAF technologies
• Proxmox, Hyper-V, VMware, or other virtualization platforms
• Working with external infrastructure consultants or implementation partners
• Regulated production environments

Location

This role can be remote within the United States.

Candidates in Georgia, particularly the Atlanta area, are strongly preferred because the company maintains physical infrastructure there and occasional onsite support may be helpful during the data center transition.

This is not a regularly scheduled hybrid role.

Compensation

Base salary up to $160,000, depending on experience.
