The Role

BuzzFeed is searching for a Syndication Editor to monitor content from partner editorial teams — particularly HuffPost and Associated Press — and select stories with strong potential to resonate with BuzzFeed readers. You'll curate and package those stories for BuzzFeed.com, ensuring they are optimized for our voice, audience interests, and distribution channels.

The ideal candidate has sharp editorial instincts (especially around news/politics, lifestyle, and entertainment), understands what motivates readers to click and share, and can quickly spot stories that are primed for wider reach. This role requires someone who is both analytical and creative: able to recognize audience appetite, identify content gaps, and re-package stories in ways that maximize engagement.

This is a 3-month contract position with the possibility of extension.

You Have

  • Ability to identify stories with viral or high-engagement potential
  • Experience adapting or repackaging existing stories for new audiences or platforms
  • Ability to interpret key audience data points and use them to refine your approach
  • Highly organized and able to move quickly while managing multiple stories per day
  • An understanding of content across verticals (news, lifestyle, entertainment) and audiences across platforms (Google, Facebook, Apple News)
  • Strong awareness of social trends and what drives people to click, read, and share
  • Ability to handle constructive feedback and improve from it
  • Highly proficient in Slack + remote workflows
  • Past experience working in editorial settings is required; 1-2 years experience preferred
To Apply:

Along with your resume, please upload (in the Cover Letter section) a doc or PDF that includes:
1) A short explanation of why you’d be a great fit for this role, including any relevant past work.
2) Take a look at the BuzzFeed.com homepage today. What are three stories we’re missing that you think our audience would love?
3) Tell us what a typical day of consuming content looks like for you. Where do you get your news, keep up with trends, and see what people are talking about?

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
