Sony Pictures Television Studios (SPTS) is one of the industry’s leading content providers, producing programming worldwide across genres and platforms. As the largest independent TV studio in the industry, SPTS produces 50+ shows each year including THE BOYS, COBRA KAI, THE GOOD DOCTOR, OUTLANDER, and PLATONIC. SPTS is part of the larger Sony Pictures Television (SPT) division. SPT is a Sony Pictures Entertainment Company, a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Sony Group Corporation.

This newly created role will lead the creative marketing team (following an internal agency model: creative/social, production, design and operations) within Sony Pictures Television Studios (SPTS). Reporting to the EVP Franchise Management, we are looking for an experienced studio and social creative director. The SVP will take direction from the Brand Marketing team to shape and elevate the brand vision, voice, strategy for all SPTS IP. The SVP will work closely with streaming and linear partners to influence and best represent the studio marketing input on all platform launch campaigns and activations. The SVP will build a best-in-class studio marketing team resourcing internal and external talent, refining workflows, creating efficiencies and leading the creative, vision, strategy and execution for all SPTS titles.

In addition to having a passion for all types of television content, this individual also has their finger on the pulse of pop culture and social trends in design, marketing and advertising. They are passionate about strategic branding, social and creative. A skilled storyteller, the ideal candidate is able to move our business forward through strategic creative and is interested in entering, creating and sustaining an informed dialogue with fans from existing platforms as well as discovering additional avenues to expand, engage and sustain audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Evolve a team of 15+ marketing leads across marketing operations, production, creative design, video/social production, event activations and other key areas of marketing into a high performing team capable of overseeing 20+ active series serving live action, animation and kid’s content.
  • Strategize, ideate and execute effective 360 marketing campaigns and branding initiatives for television driven IP with a focus on adult targeted series premiering across all the major streamers.
  • Develop strong and influential relationships with streaming and linear partners demonstrating the value of studio marketing in the content ecosystem.
  • Pivot the team to a social first marketing organization specializing in cultivating fandom through a deep understanding of all relevant social platforms, creative formats, influencer programs and other high ROI initiatives coupled with efficient content capture, original content production capabilities.
  • Create an efficient marketing operations team implementing process across on-set shoots, approvals, project management and asset management leveraging efficient software and technology to drive efficiencies.
  • Balance internal and external resources to maximize tight budgets while driving innovation.
  • Lead creative on all event activations like San Diego Comic Con.
  • Support the Franchise Management team in elevating series IP to revenue generating businesses including creating content strategies that sustain IP in between seasons.
  • Develop a team that is focused on the right priorities with the right capabilities, systems and workflows to ensure a collaborative environment.

Requirements:

  • Seasoned creative television/streaming marketing division head with 15+ years of experience leading a team across creative, production and operations in an agency-type environment with the ability to balance internal and external resources to deliver on-time and on-budget.
  • Demonstrated success creating the creative vision for successful streaming campaigns for adult-targeted series steering the strategy and execution of all elements such as key art, trailers, social content, activations, etc. (Streaming campaign experience a must).
  • Flexible to work across multiple genres from live action drama, comedy to animation to kids in an entrepreneurial environment that requires proactive initiative and follow through.
  • Proven experience working with producers, creators, and actors and ability to negotiate and influence challenging creative differences.
  • Adept at creative/ business strategy and modeling with strong knowledge of global asset management (pipeline, workflow, distribution, analytics) with a mind-set to test new AI platforms and track ROI.
  • Implement analytics and research to constantly evaluate and adapt campaigns in a dynamic industry environment.
  • Deep knowledge of artistic talent with ability to leverage global industry relationships and create opportunities to collaborate in order to set the highest creative standard
  • Experience launching and managing social studio, infrastructure regarding pipelines and content creative for 360 campaigns around originals with demonstrated campaign experience across YouTube, Tiktok and Instagram.
  • Experience running marketing operations including project management tools, approval systems, asset management, on-set producers, international crews, unions issues, etc.
  • Proven track record in shifting corporate culture with the ability to inspire and mentor executives, team members and staff focused on new growth trajectory forging a path to new ways of thinking, creating and doing business through a brand lens
  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Advertising, Fine Art or Film or equivalent experience

The anticipated base salary for this position is $255K to $330K. This role may also qualify for annual incentive and/or comprehensive benefits. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position.
