Sustainable Finance & Advisory Intern - Nairobi based

Job DescriptionThis is an internship of up to 6 months, expected to start in mid-September 2026. Candidates must be based in Nairobi and have access to a home office setup that supports full-time remote work.
Responsibilities
- Write detailed, high-level reports on climate-critical sustainable finance topics including renewable energy transition, climate-aligned debt instruments, low-carbon and climate-resilient transport, nature-based solutions and biodiversity finance, climate-smart agriculture, water security, and climate adaptation in the built environment
- Organise and support climate finance events, manage climate-focused projects, and engage key stakeholders across the climate finance and development ecosystem
- Contribute to multiple climate and nature-positive projects, ensuring climate-related deliverables are completed accurately and on deadline
- Prepare presentations, technical documents, and briefing materials in support of BwB's climate finance advisory engagements
- Develop financial models for climate mitigation and adaptation investments, conduct due diligence on climate-aligned transactions, and support the structuring of green and blue finance solutions
- Conduct high-level research on climate data, climate risk metrics, climate impact measurement frameworks, and market opportunities relevant to investment projects
- Support the design and execution of climate resilience, net-zero transition, and nature-positive investment solutions
- Research and analyse climate impacts, risks, and finance solutions across energy transition, climate-smart agriculture, water and food security, resilient infrastructure, and ecosystem restoration sectors
Skills required
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex climate and finance concepts to diverse stakeholders
- Genuine passion for climate action and a clear understanding of how climate finance drives net-zero transitions and builds climate resilience
- Highly motivated with a strong desire to develop expertise in climate finance, green investment structuring, and climate impact measurement
- Able to work independently, ensuring climate-related deliverables are completed accurately and to deadline
- Strong report writing skills, particularly on technical climate and finance topics, and excellent project timeline management
- Collaborative team player ready to adapt to new challenges in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment focused on climate solutions
- Desirable skills include: climate research and data analysis, climate risk assessment, climate scenario modelling, climate impact quantification, presentation design, and financial modelling for green and climate investments. Demonstrated experience or capability in any of these areas would be viewed positively
- Fluency in English is required; fluency in a second language is highly desirable.
- A recent graduate with a background in Climate Change, Climate Finance, Environmental Science, Sustainable Finance, or International Development with a strong climate focus
- Demonstrated interest in climate action and a working understanding of climate science, climate risks, or climate solutions
- Fluency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
