Our Associate program is a paid opportunity that allows participants to contribute to the organization’s success while applying learning from the classroom. This semester will be fully in-person. Associates are responsible for their individual transportation and housing needs.  


Associate Expectations: 

Associates are expected to work 24-29.9 hours per week during the session. While assigned to a specific division, they will have opportunities to learn about other areas within Excel through lunch and learns held throughout the semester.  


Important Dates:   

Our Summer Program runs from Monday, June 2nd, 2025 through Friday, August 22nd, 2025


Office Hours:   

  • 8:00 am‐5:00 PM PST, Monday-Friday OR as agreed upon with advisor.  Days in office must be coordinated with Advisor’s schedules. 


Our Associates must:  

  • Be available to work under 30 hours per week.
  • Be available to report to Irvine office approximately 5-days a week.
  • Have a senior standing in college (must have completed your junior year of undergrad).

OR 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Sport Science, Strength and Conditioning, Exercise Physiology, Data Science, or similar.

OR 

  • Enrolled in or completed a Master’s degree with a focus on Exercise Science, Sport Science, Strength and Conditioning, Exercise Physiology, Data Science, or similar.

OR 

  • Possess or working towards Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.


Interview Process:   

  • Applications will close on April 4th, 2025
  • If selected, the expectation is that offers will be extended mid-end of April.
  • The program will begin on June 2, 2025.


Performance Associate Expectations: 

Designing, Developing, and Delivering Training Programs 

  • Collaborate in creating individualized, periodized strength and conditioning programs tailored to each athlete's needs.
  • Focus on various elements such as speed, agility, power, strength, and conditioning.
  • Regularly assess and modify programs based on progress and specific needs.
  • Keep detailed records of daily weightlifting programs, athlete progress, and performance metrics.

Active Coaching and Demonstration 

  • Provide clear, effective instruction and demonstrations for all exercises.
  • Emphasize proper technique, execution, and safety to mitigate injuries.
  • Lead warm-up and activation sessions prior to training sessions.
  • Ensure athletes are adequately prepared for physical activity.

Maintaining a Safe Weight Room Environment 

  • Keep the weight room clean, organized, and safe.
  • Regularly inspect equipment and ensure it is in good working condition.

Performance Testing and Data Collection 

  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of all collected data following training sessions.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the demands and intricacies of high-performance sports environments.
  • Utilize advanced sports science technologies, including external workload tracking, strength testing technology, force plates, and motion capture, to optimize player performance and recovery strategies.
  • Contribute to the integration of sport science data while supporting comprehensive athlete development and return-to-play programs.
  • Stay updated on the latest sports science technologies.

Continued Education Curriculum 

  • Attend weekly educational presentations on various topics related to athletic and professional development.
  • Select a relevant player development topic, conduct thorough research, and structure a presentation using visual and interactive elements for senior performance and player development staff.


Performance Associate Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  • Must have the uncompromised ability to protect the confidentiality/privacy of others and company documents and records.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to communicate effectively with different audiences.
  • Ability to simultaneously work on multiple projects with different timelines and priorities.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and motivated with an analytical mindset.
  • Demonstrated ability to act with the utmost discretion and professionalism; must have the ability to maintain a professional appearance.
  • Functions well as part of a team; reliable and flexible team player, both within own department and the company.

Physical Demands: 

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds or more; able to properly demonstrate and perform executed exercises.


The pay for this position is $16.50 per hour. Please note that the foregoing compensation information is a good-faith assessment associated with this position only and is provided pursuant to the California and New York City Salary Transparency Law.
