Atomic Machines is ushering in a new era of micromanufacturing with its Matter Compiler™ technology platform. This platform enables new classes of micromachines to be designed and built by providing manufacturing processes and a materials library that are inaccessible to semiconductor manufacturing methods. It unlocks MEMS manufacturing not only for device classes that could never be produced by semiconductor methods, but also for entirely new categories. Furthermore, this digital platform is fully programmable in the way 3D printing is digital—but whereas 3D printing produces parts of a single material using a single process, the Matter Compiler™ technology platform is a multi-process, multi-material system: bits and raw materials go in, and complete, functional micromachines come out. The Atomic Machines team has also created an exciting first device—made possible only through the Matter Compiler™ technology platform—that we will be unveiling to the world soon.

Our offices are in Emeryville and Santa Clara, California.
About The Role:

The Strategic Finance Senior Associate will be a foundational member of our finance team, partnering directly with Operations, Engineering, Go-to-Market, and senior leadership to build the financial infrastructure and models that power our most important decisions. This role works cross-functionally with business leaders to plan the business, partner on execution, and drive accountability. You will guide decisions on resource allocation and cost optimization, building the scenario analyses and models that ensure capital is deployed with discipline and aligned to our highest-impact priorities.

You will report directly to the Head of Strategic Finance, and collaborate with leadership across the organization. As the function matures, this role has a natural path toward owning this discipline across the company and its multiple production sites.

What You’ll Do:
  • Translate strategic business decisions and operational investment opportunities into financial terms leadership can act on.
  • Track execution against plan across active programs, working with the PMO to surface new opportunities and flag timing or capital risk.
  • Own unit economics across the portfolio, tracking cost per unit and contribution margin as production scales and yield improves.
  • Help define finance reporting requirements and data needs in partnership with data engineering, ensuring cross-functional plans are reflected accurately in shared dashboards and tools.
  • Collaborate with the data and operations teams to define the metrics, data requirements, and dashboard structure for the operational finance reporting layer.
  • Prepare board and investor facing materials.
What You’ll Need:
  • 4+ years of experience in strategic finance, investment banking, consulting, or growth investing.
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM or highly analytical field.
  • Operational experience at a fast-paced, high-growth technology company strongly preferred.
  • Expert financial modeling skills and fluency with AI tools.
  • Strong analytical rigor and the ability to critically evaluate opportunities and risks in financials.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling ability - can translate complex models and datasets into concise narratives, visuals, and recommendations for executives.
Bonus Points For:
  • Background in AI, ML, or cloud infrastructure economics.
  • Experience using AI tools to automate finance workflows.
  • Experience in advanced manufacturing, aerospace, defense, hardware, or automotive.
  • Pre-IPO or high-growth company experience - you are comfortable building analytical infrastructure without mature systems around you.

The compensation for this position also includes equity and benefits.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
