Aypa is well-capitalized and uniquely positioned to lean forward on projects with well-suited deal structures to meet our customers’ needs. We have been at the forefront of energy storage development since our first energy storage project came online in 2018. As a leader in our industry, we have over 22 GW of utility-scale energy storage and hybrid renewable energy projects in development and 33 projects in operation or construction across North America.

Help to grow Aypa’s portfolio of stand-alone utility-scale energy storage and renewable hybrid projects through assessing markets, identifying project locations with unique and competitive value propositions, and creating actionable recommendations for securing project sites through greenfield and M&A.  This is a high-visibility role in a growth organization in a fast-paced industry, with a broad scope that will present opportunities to build expertise at the intersection of commercial strategy and project development. .

Responsibilities:

  • Gather, organize, and analyze data to anticipate demand for utility-scale energy storage and renewable hybrid projects across different geographies, timelines, and commercial structures;
  • Track market developments such as transmission planning processes, interconnection process reforms, new load and thermal retirements to assess the implications for market entry and siting strategies;
  • Monitor customer and competitor activity;
  • Support analysis to quantify and communicate value propositions for Aypa projects;
  • Support policy and regulatory research to identify barriers to and opportunities for market development;
  • Develop and apply quantitative and qualitative metrics to gauge competitiveness and risks of potential site locations;
  • Screen potential site locations for development feasibility;
  • Coordinate with internal subject matter experts in the identification of project locations most likely to be successful in targeted markets;
  • Contribute to building tools for improving the effectiveness and efficiency of converting commercial insights into well-positioned project sites;
  • Other duties as required or assigned.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree;
  • Preferred one (1) to three (3) years of experience in utilities, independent power producers, or consulting;
  • Basic understanding of power market fundamentals;
  • The ability to manage a steep learning curve across a wide range of topics;
  • Passion for learning about the electric power sector and value drivers for utility-scale energy storage and hybrid renewable projects;
  • Demonstrably strong organizational skills and experience using project and task-tracking tools;
  • High initiative and desire to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment with senior mentorship but limited task-level direction and supervision;
  • As part of a lean and dynamic team, the candidate must be able to plan, oversee, and personally execute numerous projects simultaneously, work well under pressure, and adjust to changing priorities.

Compensation and Location:

Salary: A base salary commensurate with experience.
Bonus: An annual bonus will be awarded based on both individual performance as well as the overall success of the business.
Benefits: Aypa offers an attractive benefits package with excellent health care/dental/vision, 401k matching, unlimited vacation, paid parental leave, and other health/wellness benefits.
Location: Remote (USA). The ability to work in the United States is a requirement; preference for candidate to be based in Portland, Oregon, Salt Lake City, Utah, or Austin, TX.

At Aypa, we nurture and support a highly diverse team and actively seek to advance fair and inclusive practices in all aspects of what we do. We hire passionate, dedicated, and forward-thinking individuals from different backgrounds and value unique perspectives and experiences. With a focus on belonging, we are committed to providing an inclusive environment for all.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
