The Strategic Design Engineering (SDE) team will partner with cross-functional product teams across Apple Home, Beats and Ecosystem to develop and introduce new products that are both innovative and cost advantaged. Our objective is to support premium & high quality products, but to also drive Design to Cost and Design to Value to support cost sensitive products
Key Qualifications
Lead & grow a talented world wide team focused on surfacing and elevating opportunities related to design for cost opportunities across design, technology, and operations, while developing, supporting manufacturing, and successfully launching products.
Develop and grow the Joint Development Manufacturing (JDM) model within Apple to successfully develop and launch products with extremely aggressive cost targets and schedules.
Strong focus on training, functional expertise development, coaching other managers, and supporting the vision to scale and strategically structure a growing organization.
Strong ability to influence without authority, other x-functional peers and leaders within the organization and across broader Apple.
Build credibility as world-class technical leader with technical and operations acumen , while fostering a working relationship/trust with senior executives, cross-functional engineering, ID, and manufacturing peers.
Description
20+ Years of experience in engineering, consumer product development, and manufacturing operations, with 5-10 years as a manager
Strong technical background, with an ability to quickly understand various aspects of product design, and manufacturing processes necessary to materialize the design
Hands-on experience in some of the following: mechanical engineering, mechanical development, packaging development, cable development, manufacturing practices/techniques involving CNC Machined parts, sheet metal, enclosures, casings, jigs, tooling, fixtures, injection molding, plastic parts, cable extrusions, cable assemblies etc.
Ability to challenge the engineering teams on requirements, specifications and suggest alternate designs and processes that meet design requirements and MP goals
Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills, capable of working in multinational environments
Excellent soft skills; flexibility to adapt to dynamic and rapidly changing environments
Experience working across functions (Industrial design, Product design, Manufacturing design, Factory Operations, Module Engineering), and with suppliers
Top-notch analytical skills, with ability to toggle between detail-orientated and strategic, large-picture thinking
Ability to travel ~20% internationally
