Description

The Strategic Account Manager I develops customer relationships that promote growth and retention within strategic accounts. This role involves guiding identified customers through the strategic life cycle—from opportunity and pilot to "close won"—by leveraging in-depth knowledge of company products, partner integrations, and client business practices. The primary goal is to provide value through actionable insights and effective communication to ensure long-term client success.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lifecycle Management: Manage the entire customer lifecycle, including initial onboarding, successful renewal, and expansion.
  • Growth & Expansion: Identify, develop, and close revenue opportunities within assigned strategic accounts while managing a pipeline from qualification to close.
  • Pilot Oversight: Direct the pilot cycle to ensure successful completion and rapid scaling across the client’s portfolio.
  • Relationship Cultivation: Maintain deep, trusted relationships with key stakeholders and executive sponsors through proactive engagement and strategic reporting.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product, Sales, and Engineering teams to translate client requirements into innovative, scalable solutions.
  • Insight Delivery: Proactively provide advanced data analyses and actionable insights to drive customer value and identify new revenue streams.
  • CRM Integrity: Maintain detailed, up-to-date documentation of all client activities, strategic plans, and opportunities within the CRM.
  • Other tasks as assigned by Manager.

Role Boundaries & Interfaces

  • Internal Interfaces: Collaborate regularly with Account Executives (AE), Customer Success Managers (CSM), Product, Sales, and Engineering teams.
  • External Interfaces: Key customer stakeholders, executive sponsors, and strategic partners.
  • Decision-Making Authority: Independent management of account planning and pilot execution; requires approval for high-level strategic pivots or contract deviations.
  • Escalation Points: Serve as an escalation point for customers; internal issues should be escalated to the Vice President of Client Success

Success Metrics / KPIs

  • Account Growth: Measured by expansion revenue and successfully closed opportunities.
  • Retention Rate: Percentage of accounts successfully renewed within the assigned portfolio.
  • Pilot Conversion: Rate of successful pilot completions that transition to full-scale implementation.
  • OKR Achievement: Consistently meeting or exceeding defined quarterly objectives and key results.

Requirements

 Required Skills & Experience

  • Significant prior experience in a client-facing or account management role with a proven track record of successful outcomes.
  • Proficient in Salesforce (or similar CRM), support platforms, ticketing systems, and Google Suite.
  • Experience with SaaS, multifamily real estate, HOA, or PropTech sectors.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication, strong active listening, and the ability to manage high-priority issues with urgency.
  • Detail-oriented, highly self-motivated, proactive on outreach, and able to collaborate effectively in a dynamic environment

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • 1–3 years of specific experience in a Customer Success role.
  • Prior sales experience and a proactive approach to client outreach.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
