RKL is seeking a remote State & Local Manager RKL is seeking a remote State and Local Tax (SALT) Manager whose experience is focused on income/franchise tax but is willing to assist with sales tax matters as needed. They are also responsible for Associates’ professional development and coaching.
The State & Local Manager is heavily involved in new and existing client business development and community involvement activities. They provide exceptional client service as a trusted business advisor.

Success FactorsResponsibilities
- Prepare and review income/franchise/gross receipts and sales/use tax nexus studies and risk assessments to identify filing responsibilities, identify SALT risks, and ensure compliance.
- Prepare and review voluntary disclosure applications, agreements, and related documentation.
- Perform technical reviews of state income/franchise tax returns.
- Interpret and advise on Public Law 86-272 and its impact on state income tax filings.
- Serve as a help desk technical resource for income/franchise/gross receipts tax questions from internal and external clients
- Guide internal and external clients on multi-state apportionment projects, including cost of performance and market-based sourcing approaches.
- Perform SALT due diligence for buy-side and sell-side clients.
- Be willing to assist with sales and use tax matters, including taxability reviews, audit defense, and help desk questions from internal and external clients.
- Manage internal and external client relationships in a clear and responsive manner.
- Collaborate with SALT Practice Leader to develop and implement best practices and innovative tax solutions.

- CPA license or JD strongly preferred.
- 5+ years of experience focused in state & local tax within a public accounting firm
- 5+ years’ experience of progressive tax consulting experience across a wide range of industries preferred
- Prior experience in coaching and training entry-level accounting professionals required
- Regularly required to perform manual tasks, concentrate, think, learn, communicate, sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, grasp, handle or feel objects, reach with arms, talk and hear
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position as needed
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office and on site at client locations, stoop, kneel, crouch, push and pull
- Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner and exchange information with internal and external actors as needed
- Ability to lift/carry up to 20 pounds
- Ability to work outside of normal business hours and weekends as needed
- Ability to travel to local and non-local clients and events as needed, overnight travel may be required

Salary Range:
