The QuoteWell engineering team is exceptional. We're looking for an additional experienced engineer to join our team (we don't use strict titles/levels internally, but this role is roughly equivalent to a staff or principal level) to help take QuoteWell to the next level. We're building a modern commercial insurance brokerage that blends cutting-edge technology with top-notch industry expertise.

What You'll Do

  • Own and write code to deliver new products and features to our users. Our stack is 100% TypeScript (React + Node) for customer-facing products

  • Work with our Product, Design, and Data teams on all aspects of feature implementation, taking user needs and breaking them down into actionable steps that can be delivered and validated incrementally

  • Craft ways to model insurance data and relationships, and surface them to users in ways that are both comprehensive and intuitive—helping our insurance team run our business better

  • Collaborate with an engineering team and culture rooted in flexibility and accountability that thrives in a majority-remote environment

  • Learn from an incredible team of engineers and maybe even a thing or two about commercial insurance (Hey, it may surprise you!)

What You'll Need

  • Current or recent full-time experience delivering code in a modern technology ecosystem with a team

  • Demonstrated ability to use TypeScript, React, and Node (or very similar stack) to solve real user problems

  • Familiarity with or interest in web technologies and how frameworks such as React and Node power web apps

  • Ability to work in a collaborative software development environment: specifying features together, writing tests, pair programming, validating with users, and iterating

  • Generalist's mentality: willingness to learn new technologies to maximize flexibility and respond to what's needed most

  • Strong ability to self-direct, proactively reach out for help or help others, hold yourself accountable, and find creative solutions when roadblocks emerge

  • Willingness to travel occasionally to Austin or an offsite destination for co-location with the team

Location: Austin, TX or Hybrid Remote. Our primary hub is located in Austin, TX, and we have remote employees across the United States. We offer flexible co-working arrangements in locations with multiple engineers.

What we offer our full-time employees

  • Competitive salaries + equity in the company

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision healthcare benefits + FSA and HSA options

  • Flexible vacation policy to recharge and live life

  • Paid membership to One Medical for employees, spouses / domestic partners, and dependents

  • Company-sponsored 401K plan (Roth & Traditional)

  • Paid parental leave, generous family forming benefits and up to $5,000 of reimbursements through Carrot

  • Up to $1,000 in home office reimbursements to build a productive space to work remotely

  • An opportunity to work on solutions that are redefining the future of commercial insurance

  • A culture driven by a focus on impact, a shared growth mindset, empowered individuals, and integrity

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
