Lead and define technical evangelism at DigitalOcean: set standards and priorities, produce and deliver technical talks and executive content, create deep AI-focused technical assets and campaigns, and mentor other evangelists. Split time between presenting on stage and building hands-on demos, labs, and social technical content to engage AI builders and infrastructure teams.

Dive in and do the best work of your career at DigitalOcean. Journey alongside a strong community of top talent who are relentless in their drive to build the simplest scalable cloud. If you have a growth mindset, naturally like to think big and bold, and are energized by the fast-paced environment of a true industry disruptor, you’ll find your place here.  We value winning together—while learning, having fun, and making a profound difference for the dreamers and builders in the world.

As a Staff Technical Product Marketing Manager, you will own the technical go-to-market for your area end to end, driven from two angles: the products (one or more of our AI-Native Cloud product lines) and the markets they serve (use cases, verticals, segments). You set the standard for how technical product marketing is executed on this team, on our stages, and in our most important executive moments. This is a role for a technical practitioner who is also a natural storyteller: you enjoy building with products just as much as you communicate their value with ease.

Reporting to the Head of Product Marketing, you will work cross-functionally across many orgs while partnering with your peers in Product, Revenue, and Marketing leadership to provide strategic direction and insights. You define how DigitalOcean differentiates in a market prone to empty hype by translating architecture into advantage and backing it with real, authentic proof. You are the person who decides not just what we built, but who it is for, what it replaces, and why it matters to them.

What you'll do
  • Own the narrative and be our market authority. Set positioning and messaging across your area (product and market), grounded in provable value, not benchmark theater or per-token cost wars. Serve as the go-to positioning authority for Product Marketing, Sales, DevRel, and executive leadership, backed by a real-time view of frontier labs, hyperscalers, inference providers, and neoclouds.
  • Build the proof yourself. Create technical demos, sample apps, and code (Python, JavaScript) that show the platform working. You don't wait for an engineer to explain a feature; you test it.
  • Create deeply technical content and be our public voice. Produce the content that helps our audience understand our products and their value. Match the medium to the message, whether that is a blog, a demo, a diagram, or a livestream, and tailor it for distribution and audience. Represent DigitalOcean on stage with the depth and presence to hold a sophisticated room, and partner with our VPs and C-level leaders on their most important third-party appearances from CFP to stage.
  • Drive launches as a system and arm the field. Sequence readiness across Product, Engineering, DevRel, and Sales so enablement and proof points land the day the product does. Define success metrics before launch, not after. Give AEs and Solutions Engineers the talk tracks, demo environments, and battlecards to close high-value AI deals. Build a repeatable launch playbook, and measure impact through adoption, pipeline, deal velocity, and win rates.
  • Set the bar and raise the team. Mentor other PMMs and establish the frameworks and standards the function runs on.
What we're looking for
  • Technical practitioner at depth. Comfortable in an IDE. You can script against an API, spin up a containerized environment on your own, and engage credibly with a systems architect. Serious software development or solutions engineering experience is a must.
  • AI-native. Practical, current knowledge of the AI stack: inference, RAG architectures, agentic frameworks (LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen), and the model landscape. You have a defensible point of view on where the market is going.
  • Public voice. Proven ability to represent complex technical products on stage and in high-visibility content, with credibility in front of engineers, customers, analysts, and executives.
  • Proven synthesizer. A track record of turning complex technical concepts into simple, specific, provable narratives that travel across executive, sales, partner, and public audiences.
  • Metrics-fluent and commercially minded. You measure your impact through adoption, pipeline, deal velocity, and win rates, and you tie GTM to real business outcomes.
  • Portfolio-level judgment. You have owned GTM for a product line or category, not a single feature, and you know how to prioritize across it.
  • 10+ years marketing developer platforms, APIs, or technical products, or equivalent time in software development or solutions engineering.
Compensation Range:
  • $191,000 - $239,000

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
