Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to bring technical excellence, initiative and leadership to our team. As a Staff Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and scaling our platform. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers, to build solutions that are reliable, secure, and optimized for performance. You’ll work across the stack, own the technical direction of major projects, proactively remove roadblocks and lead initiatives from concept to delivery. This is a full-stack role with deep ownership, from backend services to frontend performance, from planning phrases to production launches.
This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to take ownership of key initiatives within a growing company.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of scalable, secure applications across the stack—spanning modern React UIs to high-performance backend services.
- Architect highly scalable, responsive, and secure solutions to ensure exceptional performance and reliability.
- Design and lead backend architecture that supports AI/ML-powered features across user-facing and API surfaces.
- Own end-to-end technical strategy for embedding LLMs and embedding stores.
- Drive initiatives end-to-end—from ideation and planning to execution—by breaking down complex projects into MVPs and manageable, prioritized releases.
- Provide technical leadership across teams, guiding decisions on architecture, design patterns, and best practices.
- Collaborate with product and engineering leaders to align solutions with business objectives.
- Ensure compliance with security best practices and data privacy regulations.
- Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of growth, learning, and technical excellence.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies and tools to continuously improve our applications and development processes.
- Communicate clearly, engage with stakeholders, product managers and cross-functional teams to align on goals, share progress and manage expectations.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong background in building full-stack applications at scale, with at least 2+ years working with AI/ML solutions or LLM.
- Extensive experience in implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines to streamline development, testing, and deployment processes.
- Familiarity with MLOps, CI/CD for AI pipelines, and AI observability tools.
- Proficient in Node.js, React, TypeScript, and REST APIs, with experience in state management (Redux, XState, Nanostores a plus).
- Deep understanding of architecture and best practices, including RESTful APIs, databases, secure coding, and responsive design.
- Extensive experience with AWS architecture, including Lambda, ECS, S3, DynamoDB and Step Functions.
- Extensive experience designing and developing application layers that interface with large language models (LLMs) or machine learning (ML) systems.
- Experience working with vector databases, embeddings, and semantic search.
- Experience building and integrating LLM features (e.g., via OpenAI, Claude, Vertex AI, or similar), including prompt design, vector storage, and retrieval strategies.
- Build tools and services to help other team members experiment and ship AI-enhanced features responsibly and efficiently.
- Expertise in designing systems for high availability, fault tolerance, and scalability.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence technical direction and collaborate effectively across product, engineering, and executive teams.
