What We Need:
The Staff Software Engineer reports to the Vice President, Engineering. You have a long track record of changing the direction of engineering organizations at both start-ups and large companies. You will be writing code, designing system architectures, coaching individuals and teams, and leveraging your experience in developing and deploying robust, observable, and performant systems at scale.
What You Will Do:
- Deliver several multi-team projects in parallel or single-team projects of the highest complexity.
- Lead development and guide implementation of the company’s technology strategy, creating technical vision and roadmap on a 12+ month horizon.
- Level up the organization through teaching, coaching, and leading by example.
- Set a technical quality vision and drive the roadmap to achieve it.
- Design enduring system architectures and teach others to do the same.
- Champion and practice AI-assisted coding techniques to enhance development efficiency.
- Write code. While a smaller part of this role, we’re still small enough that you will have the agency and expectation to get your hands dirty.
What You Have:
At Synapse Health we’ve intentionally built a culture of kindness, collaboration and creativity, and we consider those qualities to be table stakes for any new team member. Additional requirements include:
- Bachelor’s degree with a major in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or other related majors, or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience building and maintaining multiple high-scale, event-driven, and decoupled systems leveraging modern cloud-based frameworks in e-commerce, fintech, health tech, or similar industries. We primarily use Azure, but experience with AWS, GCP, or similar platforms is equally valuable.
- Experience working in environments where there are systems, processes, and culture that enable rapid, high-quality development and deployment: CI/CD, automated test practices and infrastructure, production observability, robust feature flagging and experimentation. Bonus for designing and implementing those systems.
- Demonstrated experience in data-first environments where data technology plays a key role in identifying business opportunities.
- Experience mentoring and coaching engineers through the senior level.
- Working knowledge of engineering best practices for privacy and security compliance with PII/PHI: HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA or similar regulatory frameworks.
What Sets You Apart:
- Architectural Vision: You think beyond the code—anticipating scale, reliability, and long-term evolution. You build systems that endure.
- Technical Influence: You lead through expertise, setting a high bar for quality and guiding engineers across teams to meet it.
- Strategic Communication: You translate complexity into clarity—whether you're collaborating with product managers, mentoring engineers, or aligning leadership around a technical decision.
- Bias for Action: You move ideas forward. You know when to experiment, when to refactor, and how to unblock progress without sacrificing standards.
- Mentorship & Multiplication: You invest in people. You coach others to think like system designers, not just coders, and you leave teams better than you found them.
- Product Mindset: You care about why you're building just as much as how. You bring curiosity and customer empathy into technical decision-making.
What Sets Us Apart:
It’s no secret that most of us work to provide for ourselves and those we love, but just because we have to work doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy it. In fact, at Synapse Health, we insist on it! We want our team members to thrive personally and professionally, which is why our benefits include:
- Professional growth opportunities with compelling career paths
- Healthy work-life balance culture with paid time off (PTO)
