Build and own physics-grade robotics simulation infrastructure for manipulation, perception, SLAM, and navigation validation. Model robot dynamics, kinematics, actuation, and sensors; develop scene-authoring and CAD import tools; integrate simulation into CI; support AI data generation; and lead virtual commissioning and digital twin capabilities. The role also evaluates simulation-to-hardware divergence, supports infrastructure users, and balances simulation fidelity with performance.
Description
General Motors is reimagining automation at economy scale to make manufacturing more competitive in the USA.
You are a Staff Software Engineer - Robotics who loves to drive physics-grade simulation. Modeling and validating manipulation, perception, SLAM, and navigation requires physics, sensor models, and dynamics that process simulators do not provide.
You will build the simulation infrastructure our robotics, physical AI, and test teams depend on, and own the roadmap toward virtual commissioning and digital twin capability. You have the taste to see important problems, the talent to build great solutions and the grit to get it done.
This role sits between core robotics development and the test organization and drives the validation that happens before hardware gets involved.

With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.
Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech
- Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
