You'll lead the development of high-craft, intuitive AI features that power Gamma's presentation product, shipping complex systems that millions of users rely on every day. This means owning AI-powered features end-to-end, from architecture to reliability to performance, while shaping Gamma's technical future in AI and product. You'll build sophisticated experiences that make AI feel effortless, working across the full stack to deliver features that delight users.
As a Staff Engineer, you'll balance hands-on engineering with technical leadership. You'll design systems that handle real-time collaboration and AI at scale, elevate engineering quality and effectiveness across the team, and influence technical strategy alongside engineering leadership. You'll work with cutting-edge technologies including CRDTs, LLMs, image models, and streaming, building the foundation for how millions of people create with AI.
Our team has a strong in-office culture and works in person 4–5 days per week in San Francisco. We love working together to stay creative and connected, with flexibility to work from home when focus matters most.
What you'll doShip high-craft, intuitive AI features (including agents) that power Gamma's presentation product
Own these systems end-to-end, ensuring reliability, performance, and scalability as we grow to hundreds of millions of users
Design and implement sophisticated AI workflows that integrate LLMs and image models seamlessly into real-time collaborative experiences
Elevate engineering quality and effectiveness across the team through code reviews, mentorship, and establishing best practices
Shape Gamma's technical future in AI and product, influencing architecture decisions and technical strategy
Build systems that balance security, usability, and performance at massive scale
8+ years of software engineering experience with at least 1 year building AI-powered products
Deep expertise building complex, collaborative, real-time web applications with TypeScript and React
Prior experience working with CRDTs/YJS, LLMs and image models, WebSockets, and streaming technologies
Ability to design systems that balance security, usability, and performance at scale
Strong communication skills and experience influencing technical strategy across teams
Track record of shipping high-quality, user-facing features in production environments
The base salary for this full-time position, which spans multiple internal levels depending on qualifications, ranges between $230K - $310K plus benefits & equity.
Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including but not limited to experience and expertise in the requirements listed above.
