Job Title: Staff Scientist - Data Science
Location: Onsite (West Hills, CA)
Job Type: Full-Time
Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Staff Scientist specializing in Data Science with a focus on NGS data analysis, tool building, and AI/ML applications. The successful candidate will play a critical role in analyzing large-scale genomic data, developing computational tools, and applying machine learning techniques to drive our research and product development efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze and interpret large-scale NGS data sets, including whole genome, exome, transcriptome, and single-cell sequencing data.
- Develop, implement, and optimize computational pipelines for NGS data processing, quality control, and analysis.
- Develop and build robust, scalable bioinformatics tools and software solutions to support internal and external research projects.
- Apply sophisticated statistical and machine learning techniques to uncover insights from complex biological data.
- Collaborate with multi-functional teams, including molecular biologists, bioinformaticians, and software engineers, to integrate data science solutions into research workflows.
- Keep up to date with the latest developments in NGS technologies, bioinformatics, and AI/ML methodologies.
- Present findings and communicate results to team members through reports, presentations, and publications.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior scientists and team members.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field with 4+ years of proven experience. OR Masters in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field with 7+ years of proven experience.
- Proficient in next-generation sequencing (NGS) data interpretation, encompassing knowledge of popular sequencing technologies and data structures.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Java, and experience with bioinformatics tools and libraries (e.g., Bioconductor, GATK, SAMtools).
- Proficient in statistical analysis and AI, adept at implementing these methodologies in the analysis of biological data.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain computational pipelines and software tools.
- Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud) and high-performance computing environments.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.
- Proficient communication skills, encompassing both written and verbal abilities, enabling the presentation of complex data and concepts to diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with single-cell RNA-seq analysis and multi-omics data integration.
- Knowledge of database management systems (e.g., SQL, NoSQL) and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Shiny).
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative software development practices.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $118,600.00–$177,850.00.This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
