Company Overview
Amperesand is reinventing how the world powers its most critical systems.
We are facing a once-in-a-generation opportunity for infrastructure disruption. Electricity demand is skyrocketing, driven by AI factories, electric vehicles, and modern industrial growth. Energy supply is shifting to incorporate a more diverse mix of resources – including solar, gas, and batteries – at a massive scale.
And yet the power infrastructure behind our latest mega-projects hasn’t meaningfully changed in nearly 100 years. Supply chains for today’s infrastructure equipment can’t match the pace and sophistication of critical energy projects. Ampersand is building hardware and software that rewrites this broken power infrastructure playbook to support a new era of energy abundance.
We’ve built a new class of intelligent, software-defined power infrastructure products leveraging a decade of advanced medium voltage Solid State Transformer research that’s now ready for commercial deployment.
Our products and solutions go far beyond the capabilities of traditional electrical equipment. We make power systems that are faster to deploy, dramatically smaller and more efficient, and capable of supporting modern, dynamic energy needs for tomorrow’s most demanding energy consumers.
Scalable in-house advanced manufacturing capability is our foundation for meeting timeline and quality expectation to serve infrastructure customers around the world.
Amperesand is led by breakthrough energy hardware development veterans and funded by top tier investors who share our vision of building a category-defining energy technology company.
With hubs in San Francisco, Reno, and Singapore, our global team is laser focused on building foundational technology to solve the most pressing problems in power infrastructure at scale.
Join us in building the power foundation of the future!
Responsibilities:
Lead reliability efforts across the product lifecycle—from concept to field deployment for SSTs. Develop robust reliability design guidelines and research failure mechanisms to ensure durability and accelerate time to market.
Apply reliability models (e.g., Fault Trees, block diagrams) and lead Design FMEAs to identify risks early, influence engineering decisions, and shape test coverage.
Champion reliability in design reviews by clearly communicating risks to all stakeholders and mitigation plans at each phase of development.
Specify and execute reliability test plans using physics-of-failure principles, defining system vs component-level testing with defined sampling and durations.
Analyze accelerated life tests and field performance to refine reliability models, predict product longevity, and implement corrective actions. Resolve failures through root cause analysis using advanced diagnostic techniques.
Grow and mentor a reliability engineering team to support development and continuous improvement.
Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to define reliability targets, assess program risks, and embed feedback into future iterations.
Influence supplier selection by setting clear reliability validation standards.
Monitor fleet usage and operating conditions to enable predictive health insights, reduce field failures, and refine long-term reliability strategies.
Travel to different facilities worldwide, collaborating with teams and deploying our solutions.
Qualifications:
Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
Deep expertise in power electronics fundamentals, focusing on high voltage and high power systems.
Proficiency in accelerated testing methods, including governing equations and physics of failure for electrical and mechanical failure mechanisms.
Strong understanding of reliability statistics, including Weibull distribution, Maximum Likelihood Estimation, Bayesian methods, and Monte Carlo analysis.
Hands-on experience with failure analysis techniques, such as optical microscopy, SEM, CSAM, X-ray, cross-sectioning, and EDX.
Expertise in reliability tools such as ReliaSoft Synthesis Platform (Weibull++, BlockSim, ALTA, RGA, xFMEA) or equivalent.
Experience integrating electronic CAD and mechanical CAE data into 3D finite element models (e.g., using Sherlock or similar tools).
Experience shipping high-volume products, with a strong understanding of reliability challenges in scaled manufacturing and deployment.
Proficiency in programming languages for data analysis and reliability modeling.
Proven leadership experience in building and managing high-performing engineering teams.
Excellent communication skills to articulate reliability risks and requirements to cross-functional teams and suppliers
Please note: This role requires working on-site 5 days a week. We do not offer hybrid or remote options.
