Company Overview

Ghost is an AI-native inventory distribution platform and operating system for modern retail trade. We partner with the world’s best brands to help them understand the true value of their inventory and route it to the right destinations globally. Ghost gives brands precise control over where and how their inventory is sold. Backed by top venture firms including L Catterton, Cathay Innovation, Union Square Ventures, Equal Ventures, and Eniac. Ghost has offices in Los Angeles and New York.

About the Role

We are looking for a Staff Product Designer to help define the vision and experience of our AI-powered distribution platform connecting global supply and demand. You’ll join a scrappy, high-ownership team where ambiguity is constant and opportunity is significant. You will help shape the product direction, balancing customer insight, technical feasibility, and business impact. If you’re motivated by building infrastructure and championing innovation, while keeping solutions grounded and executable, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design across core platforms, from early concept through production
  • Define and evolve interaction patterns for AI-powered workflows including pricing, matching, routing, and deal evaluation
  • Drive deep discovery: ask questions, define user needs, conduct research, and clearly frame problems before jumping to solutions
  • Design complex marketplace surfaces serving brands, buyers, and internal operators
  • Think in systems: map user types, flows, states, and edge cases across interconnected experiences
  • Use AI as part of your workflow to explore, prototype, and iterate quickly while maintaining strong product judgement
  • Leverage a strong UX/UI toolkit to create elegant, high-leverage solutions to complex operational problems
  • Align stakeholders around clear, vision-driven design direction
  • Measure outcomes and refine experiences based on adoption, efficiency, and revenue performance

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience designing complex, data-rich, or multi-sided products
  • Strong UX and UI craft with fluency in Figma and modern AI-enabled design tools and plug-ins
  • Experience using AI to accelerate exploration and iteration while maintaining high-quality product thinking
  • Demonstrated strength in discovery, research, and problem definition — not just execution
  • Strong systems thinker with the ability to design across user types, workflows, and multi-sided platforms
  • Proven ability to influence roadmap and product strategy alongside PM and Engineering
  • Technically savvy and comfortable operating close to the stack (e.g., command line familiarity, installing plug-ins, understanding APIs, databases, MCPs, and technical constraints)
  • Experience working in fast-moving startup environments with ambiguity and limited structure
  • Strong collaborator who balances innovation with practicality — pushing the team forward while keeping solutions grounded

This role is in-office in Los Angeles (mid-city). Our total compensation for this position can range from $180,000 - $200,000. We value experience and are open to higher compensation for candidates with exceptional skills and background. The actual amounts may vary based on factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Benefits we offer:

  • Medical, Vision, and Dental with some plans covered at 100%
  • Competitive compensation and equity structure
  • 401K
  • Unlimited PTO

Ghost is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity in the workplace. We are committed to fostering an inclusive and innovative environment where all employees can thrive. We do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, veteran status, genetic information, or any other protected characteristic under applicable laws.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
