About the Role

This is a rare opportunity to shape the design culture at Rootly and set the standard for world-class UX in a high-impact domain. As a Staff Product Designer, you’ll be a hands-on leader driving the design of intuitive, elegant, and powerful user experiences that solve real problems for engineering and operations teams.

You’ll operate with broad scope and high autonomy—owning critical workflows end-to-end, leading cross-functional initiatives, and ensuring every product interaction is thoughtful, cohesive, and impactful. You’ll be a design thought partner to product and engineering, bringing deep product intuition and systems thinking to every phase of the product lifecycle.

If you thrive in environments where speed, clarity, and taste matter—where designers are trusted to lead, and where your work will shape how thousands of users respond to mission-critical incidents—this is your role.

What You'll Do
  • Own the end-to-end user experience across Rootly’s product suite, from first-touch onboarding to advanced workflows, ensuring clarity, cohesion, and delight.
  • Drive design quality through hands-on execution, setting the bar for UX and UI across complex and high-leverage surfaces.
  • Champion simplicity—translating technical and operational complexity into elegant, intuitive interfaces that users love.
  • Partner deeply with product, engineering, and leadership to define product strategy, shape roadmaps, and influence what gets built.
  • Lead with systems thinking—design and evolve our design system to ensure scalability, consistency, and speed of execution.
  • Use data, research, and customer insights to inform decisions and validate direction—balancing vision with practicality.
  • Bias toward action—identify UX issues proactively, and move quickly to improve them without waiting for perfect conditions.
What We’re Looking For
  • 8+years of experience designing B2B or enterprise software, with a portfolio that showcases both craft and problem-solving at scale.
  • A strong track record of shipping high-quality products in fast-paced, high-ownership environments.
  • Mastery of interaction and visual design, with an eye for detail and a drive to remove friction from every flow.
  • Deep understanding of user behavior, mental models, and product dynamics—you design for clarity, not just aesthetics.
  • Experience owning or contributing significantly to a design system, including components, patterns, and documentation.
  • A strategic mindset that balances user needs, business goals, and technical trade-offs.
  • Clear, thoughtful communication—you can influence cross-functional teams and advocate for the user with confidence.
  • Builder’s mentality—you seek out ambiguity, take initiative, and deliver with speed and polish.
Why Rootly?

We’re building something category-defining, and we need the best minds in design to make it seamless, elegant, and powerful. Here’s what you get:

  • Competitive compensation & early-stage equity in a fast-growing, VC-backed startup.
  • Ownership and impact - your designs will define the experience for thousands of users every day.
  • A high-caliber team that moves fast, holds a high bar, and is obsessed with great products.
  • Autonomy and creative freedom - the best ideas win, and you’ll have room to experiment, build, and iterate.
  • Flexible work environment with remote-friendly policies and annual company offsites.
  • A product that matters - we help companies respond to incidents faster, smarter, and better.

If you’re a world-class designer who obsesses over beautiful, intuitive UX, has incredible product sense, and wants to shape the future of incident management, we’d love to hear from you.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
