We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Staff or Senior Staff RF/Hardware Design Engineer to lead the development of advanced 5G radio hardware. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth technical expertise in RF circuit design, system integration, and validation for wireless infrastructure or user equipment, along with proven experience in delivering high-performance designs from concept through production.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including system architects, digital designers, and firmware engineers, to define and implement next-generation 5G hardware infrastructure platforms that push the limits of performance, reliability, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of RF, supply, and RF circuits for front-end (RFFE) and transceiver modules for 4G and 5G NR (sub-6 GHz) systems.
  • Perform schematic capture, component selection, simulation, layout review, and design optimization for performance, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Define and execute RF test plans, including S-parameter, noise figure, linearity, P1dB, IIP3, VSWR, and ACLR measurements.
  • Drive PCB design reviews, ensuring proper RF layout techniques, grounding, impedance control, and thermal design.
  • Collaborate with system and baseband teams to define RF system architecture, interfaces, and calibration requirements.
  • Conduct signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) analysis for high-speed digital and mixed-signal sections.
  • Support bring-up, troubleshooting, and validation of prototypes in the lab.
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and contribute to long-term hardware roadmap planning

Job Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or related field
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in RF/hardware design for wireless communication systems
  • Strong knowledge of RF circuit design, including LNAs, PAs, mixers, PLLs, filters, power supply, clock and matching networks
  • Experience with RF simulation tools (Keysight ADS, Cadence AWR, or equivalent)
  • Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (Cadence Allegro, Altium, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of RF specifications, including RF performance metrics
  • Hands-on lab experience with RF instruments: vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and oscilloscopes
  • Experience in system-level debugging and hardware bring-up
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with a strong ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with mass production design for 5G infrastructure, small cells, or mobile platforms
  • Understanding thermal design and mechanical constraints in RF systems
  • Experience with EMC/EMI design and compliance testing
  • Advanced degree (Ph.D.) in RF/Microwave Engineering or related field

Compensation and Benefits:

At InnoPhase, our compensation package includes base pay and pre-IPO stock options. The base pay range for this role is between $140K-$190K. Your base pay will depend on the market, interview results, skills, qualifications, experience, education, and location. Our employee benefits include a comprehensive group health plan, a matching 401(k) plan, training reimbursement, and various paid leaves (vacation, sick leave, holidays, maternity/paternity leave, and jury leave). What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
