What’s the role?

A Staff Engineer participates in cross-functional initiatives as an engineer. A Staff Engineer strives for efficiency, develops and evangelizes process improvements, and assists in streamlining cross-team collaboration. They understand the department's organizational structure and can use that knowledge to drive consensus among the necessary parties to get results. A Staff Engineer is a force multiplier and a technical leader, but their area of effect extends beyond just one team.

What you’ll do to be successful 

1.) Lead by example and drive engineering best practices

  • Write high-quality, maintainable, reliable, and performant code
  • Advocate for improvements to product quality, security, and performance that have particular impact across your team. Identify areas where we can improve not just our code but our development process and/or tools.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment.
  • Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and technical documentation to ensure high standards of quality and maintainability.
  • Identify, prioritize and breakdown work in the software development life cycle in partnership with the Engineering Manager and Product Owner.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including process optimization, automation, and technology enhancements, to streamline development workflows and increase efficiency.
  • Represent good, better, best options when discussing scope of work, timelines, and priorities with Engineering Manager, Product Owner and other stakeholders
  • Conduct thorough analysis and troubleshooting of complex technical issues, proposing effective solutions and implementing best practices.

2.) Manage and collaborate with key stakeholders

  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and other stakeholders to define high level system requirements 
  • Partner with Architecture and Engineering leaders to design and implement solutions that align with the technology organization’s Technology Vision, Strategy, Standards, and Best Practices. Represent architecture on the delivery team. 
  • Work cross-functionally with Engineering Managers to lead data-driven process improvements related to the DORA metrics, overall efficiency, and health of the system(s) that the team supports
  • Ensures Jellyvision's values, best practices, and standards are being followed at a team level. Can identify areas of improvement for best practices and standards and get buy-in from team members.

KPIs are team roadmap, technical vision/architecture  

Experience & skills you’ll need

  • 8+ years as a software engineer, preferably in a SaaS environment
  • An affinity for modern software development best practices like daily deployments, robust and efficient CI/CD pipelines, test-driven development, feature flagging, etc.
  • Tangible experience as a team leader as an individual contributor, helping not just produce quality features and design but also guiding your team to success.
  • Expertise in FastAPI and Python, with a deep understanding of asynchronous programming
  • Experience with Snowflake and Looker
  • Experience with Datadog for monitoring and logging.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools and practices.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Experience integrating and managing APIs using an iPaaS platform (e.g., MuleSoft, Workato, or similar).
  • Experience with containerization tools such as Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
  • Strong experience with microservices and event-driven architectures.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard APIs and data formats used in benefits administration, such as HIPAA 834 for enrollment and HIPAA 820 for premium payments, HL7 FHIR.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with real-time data processing frameworks such as Apache Kafka or AWS Kinesis.
  • Deep understanding of benefits administration domain, including enrollment, eligibility, billing, and compliance.
  • Knowledge of security measures and compliance with regulations such as HIPAA.

  • Starting Salary: $164,240 - $200,738
