About the Role:

The Staff Engineer, Finance Systems, requires an experienced SAP Basis Engineer to design, build, and optimize our enterprise SAP platforms. This role goes beyond administration, SAP basis engineer acts as a 'go-to' person with a strong focus on engineering scalable, secure, and automated solutions that support SAP S/4HANA application and other core applications. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in SAP technical architecture, performance engineering, and cloud infrastructure, and thrives in solving complex engineering challenges ensuring SAP SOX Financials application stability, performance, and alignment with Business and Enterprise objectives.

Key Responsibilities include the following:

  • Engineer and optimize SAP landscapes (S/4HANA, BW, etc.) for scalability, performance, and reliability.
  • Architect and implement SAP migrations, upgrades, and patching strategies across on-prem and cloud environments, with focus on high-performance platforms, reusable components, and scalable infrastructure.
  • Automate SAP system provisioning, monitoring, and recovery using modern tools (Ansible, Terraform, etc.).
  • Design high-availability large-scale solutions, ensuring compliance with business continuity requirements.
  • Partner with infrastructure, cloud, and security teams to ensure end-to-end system resilience and compliance. Also set technical direction and influence architectural decisions.
  • Identifies and proposes strategies around technical problems, troubleshooting complex system issues across SAP Basis, Application and SAP landscape.
  • Provide engineering oversight on performance tuning, transport management, and security hardening.
  • Contribute to technical roadmaps, best practices, and standards for enterprise SAP operations.
  • Researches and proposes technology solutions applicable to Dow Jones requirements and roadmap
  • Balances significant hands-on development with strong strategic technical vision
  • Ensures successful business events like Financial period close timely completion with pro-active monitoring, issue resolution and after hour coverage
  • Solves complex ambiguous challenges with structured methodologies

You Will:

  • Champion SAP applications with - install, configure, and maintain SAP on-premise and Cloud applications across development, QA, and production landscapes. You will monitor performance, apply patches and upgrades, manage transports, and resolve technical issues to ensure system stability and availability
  • Ensure SAP System Excellence – Provide technical leadership to maintain system availability, performance, and resilience by establishing proactive monitoring frameworks, guiding teams in disaster recovery, and ensuring timely issue resolution.
  • Safeguard Business Continuity During Critical Cycles – Oversee execution during financial closings, peak periods, and maintenance windows, ensuring stability through well-coordinated cutover strategies and risk mitigation.
  • Strengthen Collaboration and Governance – Mentor, Guide and Champion Technical alignment between teams, business stakeholders, and technology partners by driving structured communication, technical know-how sharing and Standardized Basis practices.
  • Drive Successful Upgrades, Basis Initiatives; Work with the Infrastructure teams – Provide technology direction for SAP upgrades, application enhancements, and infrastructure and Basis programs, ensuring minimal downtime, optimal performance, and adherence to application and compliance standards
  • Lead complex, multi-team technical initiatives across the organization for successful delivery
  • Foster Effective and Skilled Team – Guide and mentor teams, engineers and third-party providers including contract workers , promoting knowledge sharing, technical excellence, and a culture of accountability and collaboration.
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor across the Engineering leadership team
  • Ensure business-critical projects succeed
  • Consistently reduce the complexity of projects, services and processes in order to get more done with less work
  • Display a record of creating sweeping improvements in stability, performance, and scalability across major business-critical systems such as SAP

You Have:

  • SAP Expertise – 7-10+ years of hands-on SAP Basis administration (preferably S/4HANA), with exposure to tools such as Process Orchestration, Solution Manager/CHARM, Cloud ALM, SAP BTP, SAP Analytics Cloud, Data Sphere, Convergent Mediation, Convergent Charging and OpenText Archive Server.
  • Security & Integration – Experience implementing Single Sign On, certificate management, and secure authentication for SAP S/4 Hana platform.
  • Cloud & Infrastructure – Strong AWS infrastructure experience; a core need as it interacts with SAP integrations.
  • SAP implementation & Upgrade skills – 5+ years leading SAP infrastructure/implementation projects, system upgrades, and cutovers under tight timelines.
  • Oversight – Experience mentoring and guiding teams (3+ members), third-party service providers, and driving collaboration across stakeholders.
  • Soft Skills – Strong communication (technical to business translation), stakeholder management, organizational and multitasking ability, relationship building, and results-driven mindset.
  • Continuous Learning & Problem-Solving – Resourceful, self-motivated, quick to learn new technologies, and able to recommend improvements proactively.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with containerization (Kubernetes, Docker) for SAP components.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps for SAP landscapes.
  • Knowledge of SAP Fiori, PI/PO, and integrations with non-SAP systems.
