As a Staff Data Scientist, you'll analyze complex datasets, guide product strategies with insights, and enhance data infrastructure reliability.
The summary above was generated by AI

At Render, we’re building the modern cloud platform for developers creating AI-native, full-stack, multi-service applications. Our mission is to eliminate the tradeoff between the power of hyperscalers and the simplicity of developer-friendly platforms—so teams can ship fast, scale reliably, and focus on their product, not infrastructure.

Unlike complex hyperscalers or ephemeral edge/serverless solutions, Render offers a developer-first experience with persistent compute, dynamic autoscaling, built-in orchestration, and observability, allowing teams to launch, scale, and manage real-world applications without writing infrastructure code or managing servers. Whether you're building LLM-powered applications, scalable SaaS products, or async processing pipelines, Render empowers teams to move fast and scale confidently from MVP to millions of users.

Our platform is trusted by over 3 million developers worldwide and continues to grow rapidly. In January 2025, we raised $80M in Series C financing, bringing our total funding to $157M, to accelerate our vision of making cloud infrastructure both powerful and intuitive—designed for the speed of modern AI development.

We’re a diverse and talented team that values craft, velocity, and user experience. If you’re excited to help shape the future of the intelligent cloud and empower developers everywhere, we’d love to hear from you.

Applying to Render

We're seeking candidates who possess high integrity, humility, and an insatiable drive to learn. Through reasoned discussions and continuous feedback, we strive to improve both individually and collectively. We foster an environment of mutual trust and respect, empowering effective debate to achieve the best outcomes for our customers and team.

We especially encourage members of underrepresented groups in the tech community to apply and understand that not all successful candidates will meet each requirement listed.

Our interview process is unique to each role, and we value the candidate experience just as much as our customer experience. We hope your conversations with us reflect a thoughtful process that is illuminative, enjoyable, and respectful of your time.

About the Role

As an early member of the Data Science team at Render, you’ll have a critical impact on our growth by shaping product strategy and guiding investment decisions through clear, actionable insights. While collaborating with teams across the Engineering and Product organization, you will be the first to explore many areas in our data and unlock opportunities to drive innovation.

What You'll Do
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, particularly Product and Engineering, to guide, influence, and support product strategy with data insights.

  • Analyze and interpret large, complex datasets to address diverse and challenging business problems using various analytical and statistical techniques.

  • Explore and evaluate opportunities for product improvement.

  • Develop and track success metrics for product initiatives.

  • Provide actionable insights about our users, such as how they work, how they discover features, and which obstacles they might run into on the platform.

  • Contribute toward initiatives to enhance the reliability and accuracy of our data infrastructure and processes.

What We're Looking For
  • 6+ Years of experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches.

  • 3+ Years of experience leading data-driven projects from definition to execution, including metric definition, experiment design, aggregation of results from disparate data sources, and communication of actionable insights to stakeholders.

  • A track record of high ownership and taking initiative.

  • Experience in cross-functional collaboration, including effective communication with team members of varying skill sets and levels of experience.

  • Proficiency in SQL with some experience in Python.

  • Familiarity with the core components of our data stack:

    • Multiple sources of data (e.g., Segment, HubSpot, back-end data in Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL)

    • ETL to BigQuery with Stitch

    • dbt layer for data transformation

    • Analysis and reporting with Metabase

Some projects you might work on:
  • Partner with Product and Engineering leads to define and implement metrics to measure the success of features launched as part of Render's platform.

  • Define metrics for tracking and measuring the reliability and performance of Render's core platform.

  • Conduct quantitative user research to support improvements to pricing and packaging.

  • Develop algorithms for detecting abuse on our platform.

  • Build trustworthy, standardized datasets around product usage to provide visibility into the adoption and retention of platform features.

If this role excites you but you don’t meet every single requirement, we’d still love to hear from you—your unique experience might be just what we need.

Benefits
  • This opportunity is also eligible for equity with early-exercise options and extended exercise windows.

  • 4 weeks of paid vacation, available from day one.

  • 14 weeks of fully paid parental leave for all parents to bond with a newly born, adopted, or fostered child. We will also work with you to create a supportive plan of return.

  • Long-term disability, life insurance, and 401K plans.

  • 100% employer-paid medical coverage and 99% employer-paid dental and vision coverage for you and a dependent. FSAs and HSAs are available as well.

  • Monthly lifestyle stipend for wellness, mental health and therapy, hobbies, etc.

  • Monthly cell phone and internet subsidy.

  • Commuter benefits for Renders in the Bay Area, and home office stipends for remote Renders.

  • Continuous learning benefits & related support.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
