Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced AI/ML Engineer to join our Global Commercial Finance team. This role will focus on developing and deploying machine learning models and AI-driven solutions to optimize revenue forecasting and uncover new revenue opportunities. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, a strong business mindset, and a passion for building novel AI products that enhance productivity and decision-making across the commercial finance organization. This individual will work cross-functionally with global and regional finance, commercial, marketing, and analytics/data science teams to deliver scalable, intelligent solutions that drive measurable business impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models to forecast revenue and uncover new revenue opportunities across global markets.
  • Stay current with the latest AI/ML research and tools and be a thought leader in evaluating their applicability to Illumina’s commercial finance agenda
  • Build and operationalize novel AI products that improve the efficiency, accuracy, and strategic capabilities of the commercial finance organization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into scalable AI/ML solutions.
  • Construct robust data pipelines and model deployment frameworks in partnership with data engineering teams.
  • Apply advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to identify and prioritize high-value revenue opportunities, optimize commercial strategies, and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Continuously monitor model performance and retrain models as needed to ensure accuracy and relevance.

Required:

  • Ph.D. or Master’s in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in machine learning, data science, or AI engineering roles.
  • Proven experience building and deploying AI/ML solutions in a commercial or financial context.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, and ML libraries such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
  • Experience with time series forecasting, regression modeling, and classification techniques.
  • Experience working with large datasets and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across diverse business and technical teams.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of causal inference, Bayesian modeling, or reinforcement learning.
  • Experience with Generative AI (GenAI) technologies and their application in commercial or financial domains is a plus.
  • Experience in the life sciences, biotech, or healthcare industry.
  • Familiarity with financial planning tools and ERP systems (e.g., SAP HANA etc.).

Education/Experience:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years of experience; or equivalent experience.

The estimated base salary range for the Staff Data Scientist (Remote) role based in the United States of America is: $138,800 - $208,200. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
