The Role

Staff Data Quality Engineer - Lead Funnel Operations

We are seeking a Staff Data Quality Engineer to take full ownership of the integrity, scalability, and architectural reliability of our lead management systems. In this role, you won’t just manage existing pipelines—you will be the primary architect and strategic driver of their quality posture across the enterprise. You will proactively identify operational and architectural gaps within the lead funnel and independently build, implement, and manage the technical strategies, frameworks, and processes required to optimize data integrity and system reliability across our customer fulfillment workflows. This position requires a candidate who thrives on autonomy, drives technical strategy across cross-functional engineering teams, and takes personal accountability for diagnosing critical challenges while establishing the global reporting and observability mechanisms necessary to monitor, scale, and elevate system operations.

Our ideal candidate is an autonomous technical leader and problem solver with deep expertise in data quality principles, distributed systems, and data engineering. You are expected to proactively seek out friction points across the end-to-end lead journey, define organization-wide quality standards, and lead the transition to a fully automated, self-healing quality posture that ensures exceptional customer experiences through meticulous system performance.

What You’ll Do

Architect Operational Assurance & Observability – Independently design, scale, and manage enterprise dashboards and automated alerting frameworks to monitor the end-to-end lead journey. You will be responsible for synthesizing high-signal insights from complex telemetry to proactively identify and neutralize performance regressions before they impact the client experience.

Own & Elevate Data Quality Frameworks – Take full ownership of the data quality lifecycle by architecting and implementing scalable, automated validation tools, data contracts, and governance guardrails. You will define and enforce the standards that ensure high data fidelity across all lead ingestion, processing, and delivery pipelines.

Proactively Resolve Systemic Gaps – Identify and bridge operational and architectural gaps in the lead funnel by analyzing complex data flows, cross-system dependencies, and customer feedback. You are expected to independently drive the implementation of long-term architectural solutions and strategic initiatives to resolve recurring fulfillment issues at scale.

Lead Technical Strategy for Customer Success – Serve as the autonomous technical authority for diagnosing critical account challenges and systemic platform issues. Proactively provide actionable architectural recommendations, technical roadmaps, and process improvements to ensure long-term customer retention, operational stability, and system scalability.

Drive Process & Architectural Innovation – Take the lead in enforcing data contracts, SLAs, and best practices across the entire lead ecosystem. You will partner with senior cross-functional leaders in Engineering, Product, and Data Science to independently champion and execute data integrity initiatives that optimize the overall marketplace yield.

Mentor & Raise Engineering Standards – Guide and mentor data engineers across teams, establishing best-in-class data engineering patterns, code quality guidelines, and automated testing paradigms to cultivate a culture of data quality.

What You’ll Bring

  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, data quality, or software engineering with a primary focus on system performance, distributed data architecture, and customer operations.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Proven track record as a technical leader diagnosing and resolving complex, large-scale system issues, such as user monetization operations, distributed lead flows, and customer success workflows.
  • Advanced SQL mastery, expertise in data modeling, and deep experience with modern data stack architectures and visualization tools.
  • Strong experience with Python or other scripting/programming languages for building automated data validation frameworks and internal tooling.
  • Strong foundation in data governance, ETL/ELT pipeline design, data contract enforcement, and enterprise data warehousing concepts.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data flows, diagnose architectural bottlenecks, and present clear, strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to collaborate with and influence both technical and non-technical cross-functional partners.
  • Highly organized and strategic, with keen attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality, scalable engineering solutions.
  • A proactive, vision-driven, and data-informed approach to identifying, prioritizing, and resolving complex operational and technical challenges.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
