JOB DESCRIPTION

Fox’s adRise team is hiring a Staff Data Engineer to help architect and scale the data platform powering our next-generation advertising solutions across digital and streaming platforms. This senior individual contributor role is focused on hands-on system design, development, and technical leadership.

You’ll work on systems that process billions of events and petabytes of data, enabling personalized, privacy-aware advertising experiences at scale. If you thrive on solving complex problems and want to shape the backbone of modern media advertising, we’d love to hear from you.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and implement scalable, reliable, and efficient data pipelines across various business domains.

  • Lead architectural decisions for batch and near-real-time data processing systems, balancing flexibility with long-term maintainability.

  • Contribute to the evolution of our data platform — from ingestion to consumption — with a strong emphasis on data quality, observability, and governance.

  • Work on systems handling high data volume and throughput, ensuring performance and fault tolerance at scale.

  • Drive best practices around schema design, data lifecycle management, and access control across environments.

  • Work cross-functionally with product managers, data scientists, and analytics teams to understand data needs and deliver high-impact solutions.

  • Mentor engineers through design guidance and code reviews, fostering technical growth within the team.

  • Help define and enforce development standards, design patterns, and operational practices across data services

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Experience building large-scale, high-volume data systems in cloud-native environments.

  • Strong proficiency in distributed data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark, Flink, Beam), with production experience handling massive datasets.

  • Hands-on experience with Databricks or equivalent large-scale data platforms in the cloud (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, EMR, Redshift).

  • Proficiency in SQL and at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, Scala, Java).

  • Strong foundation in data modeling, system design, and performance optimization.

  • Prior experience implementing data governance and access control frameworks.

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to lead through influence in cross-functional environments

NICE OT HAVE, BUT NOT A DEALBREAKER

  • Experience in ad-tech, media domains, particularly with ad sales pipelines, identity systems, and DMPs.

  • Familiarity with real-time/streaming data architectures and event-driven pipelines

  • Exposure to open data formats and cross-platform metadata/catalog strategies

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
