Overview

We’re seeking a Staff Data Engineer to join our growing Data Engineering team. In this role, you will architect, build, and scale robust data pipelines and platforms that power LegalZoom’s products and analytics. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional partners in Data Science, Engineering, and Product to deliver high-impact solutions, mentor others on the data team, and drive technical excellence across the organization.

 

You will

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable, reliable, and well-tested data pipelines and ETL processes using dbt, Snowflake, Airflow, and Fivetran.

  • Architect net new data models to support business needs, ensuring high availability, performance, and extensibility.

  • Lead the adoption and integration of modern data engineering best practices, including CI/CD, data quality, and observability.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, guide technical decisions, and deliver data solutions that align with business goals.

  • Mentor and guide other data engineers and data scientists, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.

  • Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical decision-making.

  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, advocating for best practices.

  • Participate in an on-call rotation to address high priority incidents.

  • Occasional travel may be required as needed.

 

You have

  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering or a related field, with a proven track record of building and maintaining complex data systems at scale. 

  • Expert-level proficiency in SQL, with deep experience in data modeling and transformation.

  • Hands-on experience with dbt for data transformation and modeling.

  • Experience orchestrating data workflows using Airflow.

  • Experience building and maintaining data pipelines with Fivetran, including custom connector development.

  • Proficiency in Python for data engineering tasks.

  • Experience with cloud data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery) and modern data stack tools.

  • Strong understanding of ETL/ELT best practices, data quality, and data governance.

  • Ability to architect and deliver highly available, scalable, and extensible solutions.

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

  • Experience mentoring and leading engineering teams in an Agile environment.

  • A strong understanding of business and product goals, and the ability to align your technical decisions to them.

  • Remote employees should confirm that the internet service available has adequate bandwidth to support all work processes.

 

The salary range for this role is (140,500-249,700). Actual compensation offered will depend on several factors including but not limited to: geographic location, work experience, education, skill level, and/or other business and organizational needs. In addition, an annual bonus, incentive bonus and/or restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package. You will also receive a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits as seen below.
