Join the Tilt team

At Tilt, we see a side of people that traditional lenders miss. Our mobile-first products and machine learning-powered credit models look beyond credit scores, using over 250 real-time financial signals to recognize real potential. With millions of customers worldwide, we're not just changing how people access financial products — we're creating a new credit system that backs the working, whatever they're working toward.

THE OPPORTUNITY: STAFF ANDROID ENGINEER

Tilt's Android platform is how millions of customers experience our products every day — and we're looking for a Staff Android Engineer to lead the technical vision behind it. This isn't a role for someone who follows a roadmap handed to them. You'll shape the architecture, raise the quality bar, and help a team of engineers move faster and build better.

HOW YOU'LL MAKE AN IMPACT
  • Build financial products end-to-end. Design, develop, and maintain mobile applications that deliver financial services to users — from complex credit card onboarding flows to multi-screen state management systems.

  • Lead our design language system. Own the technical architecture and implementation of reusable component libraries that serve multiple applications across the organization. Build theme-aware components that support brand transformations and ensure visual consistency throughout the user interface.

  • Own third-party banking integrations. Architect and implement API integrations with comprehensive caching strategies and error handling, enabling secure account linking and verification.

  • Build infrastructure that scales. Create deep linking infrastructure for direct feature navigation, and develop frameworks and engineering processes that accelerate velocity across multiple teams.

  • Drive platform quality. Establish quality metrics including test coverage reporting and crash monitoring. Work cross-functionally with backend, infrastructure, and product teams to resolve performance issues before they reach customers.

  • Set the technical direction. Develop quarterly OKRs for the Android platform, modernize legacy code patterns, and lead migration from deprecated architectural approaches to contemporary frameworks that improve maintainability and performance.

  • Keep the codebase healthy. Consolidate theme systems, standardize component patterns, establish migration tracking with automated progress reporting, and remove deprecated code while preserving functionality.

WHY YOU'RE A GREAT FIT
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field and 7 years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience with front-end native Android application development and architecture.

  • Experience with Android mobile application architecture including Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM) pattern and coordinator pattern for complex multi-screen navigation.

  • Cross-platform mobile development experience, including iOS development with Swift and Objective-C, reactive programming with Java, and multi-platform design systems.

  • Demonstrated expertise in mobile application performance optimization — crash monitoring, ANR reduction, memory leak detection, and UI rendering optimization.

  • Strong software testing background including unit test development, test-driven development (TDD) practices, fake implementation patterns, and comprehensive QA frameworks.

  • Technical leadership experience: quarterly OKR development, cross-team coordination, engineering process improvement, and the ability to navigate ambiguity under pressure. Full-time. Salary range is between $224,370.20 to $273,571.00 per year. Qualified Applicants should send resumes to [email protected] ref: SAE/BJ. Direct applicants only.

Don’t meet every qualification? We care about potential over your past. If you're bringing ambition and drive to what we're building, we want to hear from you.

What you'll get at Tilt
  • Virtual-first teamwork: The Tilt team is collaborating across 14 countries, 12 time zones, and counting. You’ll get started with a WFH office reimbursement.

  • Competitive pay: We're big on potential, and it's reflected in our competitive compensation packages and generous equity.

  • Complete support: Find flexible health plans at every premium level, and substantial subsidies that stand up to global standards.

  • Visibility is yours: You can count on direct exposure to our leadership team — we’re a team where good ideas travel quickly.

  • Paid global onsites: Magic happens IRL: we gather twice yearly to reconnect over shared meals or kayaking adventures. (We’ve visited Vail, San Diego, and Mexico City, to name a few.)

  • Impact is recognized: Growth opportunities follow your contributions, not rigid promotion timelines.

The Tilt Way

We're looking for people who chase excellence and impact. Those who stand behind their work, celebrating the wins and learning from the missteps equally. We foster an environment where every voice is valued and mutual respect is non-negotiable — brilliant jerks need not apply. We're in this together, working to expand access to fair credit and prove that people are incredible. When you join us, it's not just another day at the [virtual] office, you're helping millions of hardworking people reach better financial futures.

You’re pushing ahead in your career? We can get behind that. Join us in building the credit system that people deserve.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
