Summary/Objective

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant is responsible for monthly accounting including bank reconciliation, general ledger and preparation of a balance sheet and income statement for a growing CPA firm specializing in financial planning to national clientele.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Exercise discretion and authority in the preparation of accounting records, including financial statements and other financial reports, to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standards defined within the department

  2. Establish records of accounts and input entries into proper accounts

  3. Document and ensure proper keeping of financial records, making use of current technologies

  4. Prepare month-end journal entries and assist in compilation of financial statements, reconcile bank statements and general ledgers.

  5. Work independently on the completion of account reconciliations monthly for balance sheet accounts including the capital projects in progress accounts and miscellaneous revenue accounts

  6. Perform a crucial, first-line role in the monthly accounting services

 

Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Work independently on monthly and quarterly financial statements including reconciliations of bank and credit card accounts; assess general ledger for accuracy 

  2. Exercise discretion and authority in the preparation of after the fact payroll summaries and record journal entries

  3. Record journal entries to reconcile balance sheet accounts to supporting documents

  4. Ensure compliance with all laws, regulations in the preparation of year end Forms 1096 & 1099

  5. Work independently with clients as needed to facilitate completion of financial statements

  6. Responsible for multiple clients; organization of supporting documents; ensure timely financial reports for clients and planning teams while meeting all department production goals

Education and Experience

  • 2-5 years of experience in accounting field required

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution preferred

  • Multi-client CPA firm experience preferred

  • QuickBooks software experience preferred

  • Proficient in both Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Act as a team player and demonstrate a positive attitude

 

Travel

No travel is expected for this position.

 

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. 

 

Physical Demands

This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing may be required.

 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed based on management’s approval. The ability to work remotely is allowed based on management’s approval.

Compensation

Minimum: $65,000.00 - Maximum: $78,000.00 USD
