Position Overview

PIMCO Product Strategists are investment professionals that specialize in a strategy area or market sector. They are recognized internally and externally as experts in their areas. Strategists at PIMCO lead new business development efforts; focus on long-term strategic positioning, while seeking to capture near-term demand opportunities. Strategists seek to position PIMCO for sustained high growth rates and attractive levels of profitability, diversifying PIMCO’s business by sub-product, investor type, and/or region. Strategists use their highly specialized knowledge to lead all strategic aspects of that strategy area, akin to running a focused business unit within PIMCO. Typical Product Strategist teams are 3 to 7 people in size, split between senior Product Strategists and junior Product Associates and Analysts who provide reporting and analytical support.

The stable value market is a $900 billion market and a key initiative within PIMCO’s DC Solutions. PIMCO has a stable value footprint of more than $29 billion in assets, covering three primary market segments: separately managed stable value funds, fixed income sub-advisory for stable value, and a multi-plan CIT stable value fund.

PIMCO is seeking an experienced Stable Value Strategist to join the team. The person filling this position will be expected to effectively grow our existing business and also identify and pursue new business opportunities. The Stable Value Specialist will interact directly with third parties in the stable value business to develop relationships, negotiate preferred contract terms, and perform ongoing due diligence. In addition, the Stable Value Specialist will provide client-servicing activities for existing clients and stable value contract providers, along with general support for the business. The Stable Value Specialist will work closely with senior stable value professionals, and will maintain effective relationships with internal staff and external market professionals, including consultants and stable value counterparties.

Strategist Responsibilities:

  • Represent PIMCO’s stable value strategies to a range of Defined Contribution clients along with consultants and intermediary clients to drive business development.

  • Partner with client-facing PIMCO professionals to service and grow our existing business.

  • Accompany client facing professionals in client meetings to provide updates on the stable value market and act as the portfolio management team’s proxy in detailing investment strategy, performance, and individual investment rationale.

  • Develop a strong partnership with the portfolio management and analyst teams in order to be a credible and highly effective PM substitute, serving as the product expert to relationship managers and marketers.

  • Develop marketing, servicing and educational materials, including marketing and servicing presentations, monthly commentaries, quarterly investor reports, white papers, and respond to audit requests, consultant and client RFIs, RFPs, and questionnaires.

  • Collaborate with marketing, client facing, consultant relations and other functional groups to pursue new business opportunities.

  • Help manage PIMCO's partnership with wrap providers.

  • Work with internal and external counsel to enhance stable value contract terms, lead development of contract templates with new counterparties, and perform ongoing due diligence of wrap providers.

  • Understand business/client needs and customize stable value contract terms to fit objectives.

  • Perform managerial, administrative, and operational stable value functions, such as rate reset processing, trade processing, data and information compilation, reporting to clients and other business partners, and the review and documentation process of book value term sheets, contracts, and amendments.

  • Monitor client asset allocation strategies, oversee portfolio compliance with investment guidelines, and review client reports. Enhance systems and audit processes to ensure the timely and accurate management, processing, and storage of information regarding all aspects of the stable value portfolios.

  • Complete other ad hoc duties related to the day-to-day management of stable value portfolios.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
