We are seeking a mid-career developer with an entrepreneurial mindset who is on pulse of the technological advancements and knows how to incorporate them empathetically into digital campaigns that catalyze audience engagement around social change.  The ideal candidate likes collaborative work and is comfortable working in teams. 

You will lead the development of complex digital ecosystems and technical backbones for brands, websites, CMS, CRM, ads, and develop optimizations that are beautifully and optimally built to engage audiences, meet Swell standards of excellence, and exceed client expectations.

Reports to the Director of  the Data & Technology Department.

Qualifications 

Leadership Experience

  • 3+ years relevant leadership experience, including 1+ years in agency, activism and/or change work.

Work Experience

  • Experience building digital ecosystems, internal systems, messaging, audience analytics and optimization.

Technical Experience

  • In depth knowledge of PHP, MySQL and Roots tech stack;
  • Understanding of Google Tag Manager and Analytics;
  • Quality assurance experience and debugging and proposed solutions;
  • Ability to optimize websites for SEO, WCAG accessibility, and overall performance;
  • Extensive knowledge with WordPress core and plugin management, HTML, CSS, JS, TailwindCSS, NextJS / React, Node and Contentful

Team Experience 

  • Experience leading a mission focused team.

Other Preferred Knowledge

  • Experience working in an agency setting or consulting firm.
  • Active member of coalitions and communities we serve. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of the political process, power and politics.
  • Bilingual

Key Competencies and Responsibilities 

Programming

  • Develop technical environments. 
  • Write code for a variety of development environments. 
  • Update, monitor, and troubleshoot website issues.

Campaign Management

  • Contribute to cross-department brainstorms for campaign concepting and work in partnership and across departments as needed/as appropriate.
  • Use data to iterate and refine technology and identify where pivots are necessary. 
  • Work in partnership with other team members (Design, Strategy, Content to ensure all touchpoints are cohesive, goal oriented, and moving the client closer to their goalposts through feedback, testing, quality assurance etc. 

Client Management

  • Participating in client-facing briefings, brainstorm sessions, and status meetings.
  • Contributes to first-level support to clients and ensures that questions about our services are addressed.

Swell Leadership

  • Work cross-functionally with internal teams to ensure strategy work moves from planning to execution (e.g., design, content development, ads/audience development, etc.).
  • Uphold our values. 
  • Model excellence and share ideas to better refine our processes and deliverables.
