Role

We are looking for a Sr. Staff Software Engineer to join our Engineering team. This is a hybrid role on-site three days a week in San Jose, CA, reporting to Sr. Manager, Experience Center Department. Your primary mission is to stabilize our test automation and significantly raise the quality bar of the product. You will be the driving force behind modernizing our testing culture and ensuring our engineering standards meet the demands of our users.

What you’ll do (Role Expectations)

  • Raise the quality gate of the product through the strategic and heavy application of automation
  • Assist with release management and partner bug triage efforts for the Experience Center product
  • Partner with the team to transition our workflows toward full continuous deployment for production via automation

Who You Are (Success Profile)

  • You possess a proven track record of transitioning manual testing environments to automation-first cultures.
  • You are a natural skeptic of the status quo, constantly questioning inefficiencies and thinking outside the box rather than following legacy norms.
  • You maintain a true growth mindset and never stop developing yourself, actively seeking feedback to become a better partner and a stronger teammate.
  • You act like an owner, operating with integrity and navigating seamlessly between high-level strategy and hands-on execution.
  • You are a positive force who approaches hard problems with constructive energy and a 'can-do' spirit that inspires your team.

What We’re Looking for (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Advanced expertise in the development and optimization of end-to-end automation frameworks using Playwright and TypeScript.
  • 10–15+ years of software engineering experience, with a significant focus (8+ years) on UI automation, testing infrastructure, and framework architecture at scale.
  • Capable of operating effectively within a global delivery model, including the willingness to attend late-night meetings to ensure project alignment with IST counterparts.
  • Demonstrated ability to define long-term technical roadmaps, influence organization-wide automation strategy, and mentor other senior and staff-level engineers.
  • Strong experience collaborating with executive leadership and cross-functional teams (Product, DevOps, Security) to align technical initiatives with business goals.

What Will Make You Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Previous experience leading or mentoring automation teams through technical transformations
  • Demonstrated ability to establish engineering norms and build team cohesion within a fast-paced environment

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
