Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Site Reliability Engineer with infrastructure-focused skills including - scaling, availability, performance, backup/recovery, and cost optimization - but with additional database expertise to manage our MySQL, Amazon Redshift, and Snowflake database platforms. In this role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, administration, upgrades and migration of the databases to support high-performance, scalable, and secure data solutions. You will play a strategic and hands-on role in scaling our data infrastructure, optimizing performance, and ensuring the reliability and security of our mission-critical systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure database systems meet the needs of the organization and maintain optimal performance and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Database Design and Architecture:.
    • Develop and enforce database standards, best practices, and security protocols.
    • Migrate databases across accounts/regions prioritizing availability and latency.
  2. Performance Tuning and Optimization:
    • Monitor and analyze database performance, identifying bottlenecks and implementing solutions to improve efficiency.
    • Assist with database caching, indexing, and resource allocation.
  3. Access, Maintenance and Operations:
    • Administer and optimize environments including user access, roles, and cost controls.
    • Implement and manage backup and recovery strategies wherever needed and applicable.
    • Ensure database systems are highly available and resilient, including configuring replication and clustering as needed.
    • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as patching, upgrades, and storage management.
    • Automate database operations using scripts and tools.
  4. Monitoring:
    • Implement monitoring solutions to proactively detect and resolve database issues.
    • Ensure compliance with data security policies and regulatory requirements.
    • Track cost/usage by team.
  5. Collaboration and Leadership:
    • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
    • Collaborate with software developers, data engineers, and analysts to align database solutions with business needs.
    • Participate in capacity planning, budgeting, and strategic decision-making for database technologies.
  6. Snowflake specific responsibilities:
    • Collaborate with data engineers and analytics teams to assist with ELT/ETL pipelines.
    • Migrate the data from a Redshift cluster to Snowflake.
    • Monitor usage and implement cost governance policies for Snowflake workloads.
Required Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Experience: Minimum 7+ years of experience managing databases, with at least 3 years specializing in MySQL, Snowflake and Redshift Spectrum.
  • Skills and Knowledge:
    • Proficiency in database administration, including replication, clustering, and high availability.
    • Demonstrated experience running complex database migrations that may have included multiple teams, across accounts, and/or across regions.
    • Expertise in MySQL, Snowflake, Amazon Redshift and Redshift Spectrum, including data lake integration.
    • Understanding of SQL and database internals, including storage engines and query execution plans.
    • Experience with data pipeline tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, AWS Glue).
    • Knowledge of monitoring tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Prometheus) and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash).
    • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS (S3, Lambda, IAM, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Database Specialty).
  • Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, or Spark.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, including both infrastructure as code (Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines for database deployments and managing users.
  • Familiarity with Clickhouse database.
Soft Skills:
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.

Target cash compensation range: $136,100.00 - $174,210.00 USD Annually

We are committed to providing competitive, market-informed compensation. The cash compensation above includes base salary, variable commission for employees in eligible roles, and annual bonus targets for eligible roles. In addition to cash compensation, all full time iSpotters are eligible to participate in iSpot’s equity plan to receive stock options. Non-exempt roles will also be eligible for (pre-approved) overtime pay. Individual compensation packages are influenced by different factors unique to each candidate, including their skills, experience, qualifications and other job-related reasons.

Hybrid & Flexible Workplace Policy

iSpot supports a hybrid and flexible workplace. Depending on location and work responsibilities, employees may be designated as full-time or part-time office-based or a fully remote employee. A hybrid work schedule indicates that you work in the office some days and work from home other days. The best hybrid workplaces allow for flexibility while also encouraging consistency. 

Those local or living in surrounding areas to one of our offices (Bellevue, WA or New York, NY) will work a hybrid schedule, coming into their local office 1-3 days a week. While those in a role, not office-based and located further away from our offices, will work a fully remote schedule.
