Cloudera is looking for a Senior Product Manager for the CDP Engines team for the Cloudera open source Apache Impala and Kudu products.  This is a highly visible role that will have a lasting impact on the strategic direction of the company and customer success.

As Senior Product Manager you will be responsible for all product lifecycle activities from vision to implementation, including customer development, product strategy and roadmap, coordination with engineering, marketing, business development, and substantial pre- and post-sales field engagement. We need a leader to take our existing engines offering to market, continuing your track record of innovation in the data center and building upon their strong foothold in the cloud.

As a Senior Product Manager you will:
  • Create and execute a product strategy that appeals to the unique needs and requirements of Cloudera customers

  • Manage the entire product life cycle from strategic planning to tactical execution

  • Define product requirements based on an intimate knowledge of the specific market segments, customers, and existing product capabilities

  • Drive field enablement, working to ensure that solution engineers and account executives have what they need to be successful

  • Work directly with customers on the front line, helping to drive adoption

  • Build relationships with key customer stakeholders to ensure that we remain laser focused on the customers’ experience and satisfaction

  • Identify new opportunities for Cloudera to innovate on behalf of our customers

  • Support sales teams, leading calls with key customers to ensure all parties have confidence in Cloudera’s capabilities today and in the future to meet their data warehousing needs

  • Establish goals and review metrics to prove the effectiveness of the delivered capabilities

  • Drive the product strategy, vision, and execution of our mission - working closely with our sales, engineering, documentation and partner teams to define success and win

  • Advance the state of the art for user experience, performance, and security of the world’s fastest, most scalable data warehousing engines

We’re excited about you if you have:

  • Ability to operate at high bandwidth, context switching regularly across multiple work streams

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, applied equally well to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Technical and business acumen to interface with teams of all levels and disciplines within an organization, from engineers to senior leadership

  • Conceptual and practical expertise with database management systems - e.g. query optimization, indexes, data modeling, etc.

  • Knowledge of distributed data systems - e.g. consistency, CAP theorem, performance optimization, etc.

  • Proficiency with SQL, especially for analytics purposes

  • Have a good understanding of the data mesh market

  • Experience working with Impala or Kudu is a must

  • Storytelling and narrative building using the written word, as well as data and metrics

  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data from disparate sources in order to drive conclusions

  • Keen sense of empathy to understand other perspectives, and discernment to incorporate them into your decision-making process

  • Examples of how you took a user need or opportunity → framed it into a product capability → validated the concept → got it built → drove its adoption → and monetized it

  • 3+ years in product management

  • 5+ years of industry experience in the database industry

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field 

  • MBA, or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field

  • Intuition and design thinking to continually simplify the user experience of a product that is forever growing in capability and complexity.

  • Track record of identifying industry trends early in the lifecycle and fitting them appropriately into products you manage.

  • Deep knowledge of either AWS, Azure, or Google.

  • Understanding of Kubernetes concepts, architectures, tooling, et

  • Ability to design an end-to-end architecture for a data solution in the analytics space
