The role involves shipping new features in a React Native app, debugging issues, building platform-native modules, and collaborating with designers and engineers to enhance user experience.
What if social media worked more like the web — open, flexible, and full of possibility? That’s the future Bluesky is building. Our app is already used daily by millions, but it’s just the beginning: underneath it is a protocol designed for an entire ecosystem of apps, all connected by the same social graph.
We’re looking for a product engineer who loves building consumer apps that feel smooth, polished, and delightful. You’ll join a small, fast-moving team where your code will reach millions, your design instincts will shape the user experience, and your ideas will help invent the future of social networks.
About the role:
You’ll be joining the team responsible for Bluesky’s flagship app — a multi-platform, open-source social client already in the hands of millions. Your work will be immediately visible and will directly shape how people experience the future of social media.
This role is perfect for someone who loves consumer apps: sweating the details of interactions, building polished and delightful interfaces, and making complex flows feel simple. We’re a small, fast-moving team, so you’ll have the freedom to ship quickly, influence product direction, and push the boundaries of what a social app can feel like.
Key responsibilities:
- Ship new features in a large, mature React Native application used daily by millions
- Debug and fix tricky issues with the help of remote instrumentation and strong problem-solving instincts
- Build and maintain platform-native modules to make the app feel smooth and responsive across iOS, Android, and web
- Collaborate closely with designers and other engineers to refine flows and polish interactions
- Contribute to the open-source ecosystem around Bluesky and the AT Protocol
You might be a good fit if:
- You have strong programming fundamentals and software engineering skills
- You’re deeply experienced with Typescript (5+ years)
- You’ve shipped React Native apps to iOS, Android, and web
- You care about UI/UX quality and sweat the details
- You’ve worked across the full stack (frontend and backend)
- You’ve built motion-rich interfaces (gestures, animations)
- You have an intuitive understanding of how people use social apps
- You thrive on small, fast-moving teams where you can own big pieces of work
- You’re excited to help shape the future of social networking
We’re especially excited if you have the following:
- Previous experience working at startups or on social media products
We're a fully remote team, though working hours overlap with PST (Pacific Standard Time). However, please note, there may be an on-site component to these interviews.
