Job Summary:
We are looking for a Sr. Manager, Tax Services (“Sr. Manager”) to join our Tax Team. The Tax group is a dedicated team of professionals who work in conjunction with our wealth advisors to provide tax compliance services to our high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients. We are looking for someone who loves client service but does not enjoy the headaches of billable hours in a traditional public accounting firm. We do not do audits or assurance work, and there are no business development requirements.
As a member of the Tax Team, the Sr. Manager is primarily responsible for leading client relationships and a group of tax professionals, reviewing and delivering income tax returns, tax projections, and analysis for our clients. The Sr. Manager has a passion for client service with experience in individual and entity tax preparation and review. The Sr. Manager is personable, demonstrates superior communication skills, and possesses the flexibility to multi-task in a fast-paced tax services environment.
This role benefits from a flexible work from home schedule. You will have the flexibility to work from home or in the office, and there will be periodic coordinated visits to the office to collaborate with the team.
Essential Job Functions will include:
- Coordinating the activities of the tax team; managing process, output and deliverables that drive an efficient team and exceptional client experience.
- Drive team attainment of service level agreements (SLAs) and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Analyze daily/weekly/monthly team performance data, deliver performance feedback and coaching to ensure the team is responsive to clients and tasks are completed in a timely manner.
- Identify areas for process improvement at the individual and team level.
- Support ongoing technology initiatives, assisting with documentation, implementation, and troubleshooting.
- Designing, developing, and enforcing operational procedures that are scalable and meet the firm’s service standards.
- Take an active role in leading and facilitating the tax processes in our CRM, including ongoing processing to ensure exceptional advisor and client experience.
- Updating procedures, assuring accuracy, and conveying policy changes to team members.
- Spearheading, recommending, and developing procedures that guide the firm in maintaining and improving its competitive position and profitability.
- Other duties as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Minimum 7+ years of public accounting experience, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 2 years of management and/or leadership experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- Strong tax code knowledge and general accounting skills
- CPA and/or EA required
- Advanced degree/certification preferred (e.g., MST, JD, LLM, CFP)
- Experience with UltraTax and SurePrep a plus.
- Highly organized and tax-oriented
- Ability to communicate concepts to clients and advisors in concise and understandable fashion
- Must be detail-oriented and have excellent time-management skills
- Client first attitude including a passion for providing an excellent client experience
Work Schedule: This professional role requires availability during standard business hours of Monday through Friday from 8AM to 5PM, and Saturdays as needed during tax season. At times, the role may have early or late hours to meet business tasks and deadlines for external and internal client needs.
Working Conditions: This position may be in a professional office environment or a dedicated home office workspace which is free of interruptions. Whether position is in a dedicated office space or home office workspace, basic technology needs will be provided to satisfy position requirements. Routinely sitting and standing for periods of time.
Salary: Average annual salary range for this position across our locations is: $135,000 to $155,000. Actual base pay within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the applicant’s geographic location, relevant experience, education, skills and licenses/certifications. This position is also eligible to earn incentive compensation through one of Mercer Advisors’ incentive compensation programs.
