As a Senior Engineering Manager, you’ll serve as a coach for a team of engineers, overseeing performance management, growth opportunities, and accountability. You’ll also split your time with hands-on implementation of technical solutions.

As a Sr. Manager, Software Engineering within Research & Development working on an early stage product, you will help decipher one of Riot’s next big bets. You will oversee a team or teams of engineers as well as actively contribute to exploring new experiences to surprise and delight our players. You will be accountable for all technical decisions supporting your initiatives and help shape the product. As part of the engineering leadership group, you will also partner with other leads to improve technical processes and level up the discipline. This role reports to the Engineering Director for the product.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage a group of 4-7 software engineers and engineering managers, coaching them, holding them accountable to best practices and their growth plan 
  • Partner with discipline and product leadership to develop strategies for improving team health and effectiveness
  • Be accountable for the technical health of product and taking an active part in its implementation
  • Contribute to architecture requirements, technical design, and implementation for relevant systems
  • Help shape the technical direction and standards for the team
  • Build healthy relationships with other engineering teams at Riot to foster cross-team collaboration
  • Mentor engineers and managers in best practices for the current product phase
  • Champion your sourcing and hiring processes to identify and hire engineers
Required Qualifications:
  • 7+ years professional experience as a software engineer working in a game development team
  • 3+ years as an Engineering Manager leading engineers and engineering managers
  • 2+ year(s) as a tech lead guiding the direction and implementation of a game
  • Experience recruiting candidates and growing an engineering team
  • Experience participating in technical discussions such as technical design reviews and code reviews
  • Excellent knowledge of common game and software design patterns
  • Proven ability to develop gameplay systems
  • Product sense and player empathy in making tech decisions
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience developing experiences with Unreal Engine 4 or 5
  • Experience with one of the following areas of expertise: 3Cs, AI, or Networking
  • You believe that diverse teams are fundamentally more engaging. You work actively to promote an environment where individuals on the team feel included and are encouraged to contribute their perspectives to help the team make better decisions

(Redwood City Only) Base salary range between $246,300.00 - $343,400.00 USD + incentive compensation + equity + 401K with company match + medical, dental, vision, and life insurance + short and long-term disability + open PTO.
