As a Senior Manager, Software Engineering, you’ll pioneer innovative ideas around product strategy. You’ll also serve as an advisor to other managers, supporting plans to improve organizational design and structure.

You will guide the multiple teams in Riot’s Accounts, Identity and Access group as they build the platform that powers authentication and authorization for millions of Riot players worldwide. You will be leading the group that creates the technology that handles the highest volume of traffic, ensuring smooth and secure entry points for players' first interactions with our games. You will mentor and grow a team of engineers and managers, passionately focused on their careers and individual strengths.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage an Engineering Manager leading a team of 6 engineers while also directly supporting a team of software engineers, ranging from associate-level to principal-level.
  • Collaborate and time shift as needed to work with geo-distributed teams across Riot to ship products and services.
  • Support a team working collaboratively with product, delivery, and technical leads.
  • Help us with design, code and release processes for the services and solutions produced on your team.
  • Mentor your direct reports, building career paths with them to help meet their goals.
  • Design the team makeup so that it has the skills and staff needed for our goals.
  • Ensure the services are built with resiliency in mind as well as serving our customers long-term goals.
  • Balance short-term and long-term needs to ensure stable, operational, extensible services
Required Qualifications:
  • 4+ years experience in Software Development Leadership position as a Engineering Manager/Director of Engineering working on teams that ship global, high-capacity services.
  • 6+ years professional experience as a software engineer.
  • Expertise with continuous development and deployments of large-scale systems, microservices architecture, client/service application architecture, API architecture and development
  • Expertise in project management, prioritization frameworks, driving large scale projects across multiple teams, and guiding investment strategies in people and systems.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience leading services teams that use Docker, Jenkins, Terraform, and Cloud Platform providers like AWS or GCP.
  • Experience with authentication and authorization protocols (OAuth, OpenID Connect, etc.) and identity management systems (Azure AD, Okta, etc.)
  • Experience with web application security standards and guidelines, such as OWASP.
  • Experience defining and delivering technical solutions to technical users.

For this role, you'll find success through craft expertise, a collaborative spirit, and decision-making that prioritizes your fellow Rioters, who are the customers of your work. Being a dedicated fan of games is not necessary for this position!

Our Perks:

Riot focuses on work/life balance, shown by our open paid time off policy and other perks such as flexible work schedules. We offer medical, dental, and life insurance, parental leave for you, your spouse/domestic partner, and children, and a 401k with company match. Check out our benefits pages for more information.

At Riot Games, we put players first. That mission drives every decision in our quest to create games and experiences that make it better to be a player. Whether you’re working directly on a new player-facing experience or you’re supporting the company as a whole, everyone at Riot is part of our mission. And just like in our games, we’re better when we work together. Our goal is to create collaborative teams where you are empowered to bring your unique perspective everyday. If that sounds like the kind of place you want to work, we’re looking forward to your application.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
