We operate a global, two-sided network at scale that connects hundreds of millions of merchants and consumers. We help merchants and consumers connect, transact, and complete payments, whether they are online or in person. PayPal is more than a connection to third-party payment networks. We provide proprietary payment solutions accepted by merchants that enable the completion of payments on our platform on behalf of our customers.

We offer our customers the flexibility to use their accounts to purchase and receive payments for goods and services, as well as the ability to transfer and withdraw funds. We enable consumers to exchange funds more safely with merchants using a variety of funding sources, which may include a bank account, a PayPal or Venmo account balance, PayPal and Venmo branded credit products, a credit card, a debit card, certain cryptocurrencies, or other stored value products such as gift cards, and eligible credit card rewards.  Our PayPal, Venmo, and Xoom products also make it safer and simpler for friends and family to transfer funds to each other. We offer merchants an end-to-end payments solution that provides authorization and settlement capabilities, as well as instant access to funds and payouts. We also help merchants connect with their customers, process exchanges and returns, and manage risk. We enable consumers to engage in cross-border shopping and merchants to extend their global reach while reducing the complexity and friction involved in enabling cross-border trade.

Our beliefs are the foundation for how we conduct business every day.  We live each day guided by our core values of Inclusion, Innovation, Collaboration, and Wellness. Together, our values ensure that we work together as one global team with our customers at the center of everything we do – and they push us to ensure we take care of ourselves, each other, and our communities.

Job Summary:

The Senior Manager, SEC Reporting role will lead the preparation and review of PayPal's SEC filings (Forms 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K) ensuring compliance with US GAAP and SEC rules and regulations and drive the financial statement filing process and timeline. This role demands strong project management and communication skills and the ability to partner and influence cross functionally with Controllership, Tax, FP&A, Legal, Investor Relations, and others. We are seeking someone with exceptional technical depth of US GAAP and SEC rules and the judgment to form and defend positions where the guidance is ambiguous or silent. This Senior Manager role will also prepare Disclosure Committee, Audit Committee, or other executive-level materials, and identify and deliver improvements to the reporting process, including automation of processes.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Partner with PayPal business leaders and wider PayPal finance organization on accounting and reporting matters
  • Drive accounting support within finance transformation work programs and other process enhancements
  • Provide accounting expertise and leadership to finance and business organizations
  • Consult with business partners regularly to ensure awareness of significant transactions and potential accounting impact

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 8+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active CPA, with a Big 4 public accounting foundation combined with external reporting and accounting policy experience at a large public company
  • Direct, hands-on experience preparing and reviewing Forms 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K for a large accelerated filer, including financial statements, footnotes, MD&A, disclosure checklists, tie-outs, and Inline XBRL tagging.
  • Experience designing, documenting, and operating SOX internal controls and disclosure controls over the external reporting process, including coordinating with Internal Audit and external auditors.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing proxy statement financial disclosures in partnership with Legal and HR.
  • Experience supporting earnings releases and investor materials, including tie-out of financial content and coordination with Investor Relations, FP&A, and Comms.
  • Proven project management skills through building and holding a reporting calendar, coordinating deliverables across multiple functions, and sustaining quality under tight and repeating deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner and influence cross-functionally, working effectively with Controllership, Tax, FP&A, Legal, Investor Relations, and external auditors.
  • Deep knowledge of SEC reporting requirements — Regulation S-X, Regulation S-K, SAB Topics, and staff C&DIs.
  • Technical depth across several US GAAP topics: revenue recognition (ASC 606), credit losses (ASC 326), transfers of financial assets (ASC 860), consolidation and VIEs (ASC 810), business combinations (ASC 805), equity securities and equity method (ASC 321/323), share-based compensation and EPS (ASC 718, 260), derivatives and hedging (ASC 815), and segment reporting (ASC 280).
  • Demonstrated ability to research and interpret accounting guidance and disclosure guidance and use professional judgment to support conclusions; experience assessing and implementing new accounting standards and SEC rules across a multinational organization.
  • Experience with non-GAAP financial measures and their compliance with regulations, reconciliation preparation and review, and governance over the Company's non-GAAP reporting policies.
  • Ability to assess and challenge the appropriateness and effectiveness of disclosures, including benchmarking against peer filers and monitoring FASB, SEC, and PCAOB developments and emerging disclosure trends.
  • Experience preparing Disclosure Committee, Audit Committee, or other executive-level materials, with the judgment to calibrate technical detail to the audience and strong presentation-building skills.
  • Experience reviewing the work of and mentoring less experienced team members — setting priorities, providing constructive feedback, and raising the technical capability of the broader team.
  • Track record of improving or automating accounting and reporting processes — including experience with AI-enabled workflows, disclosure management platforms (Workiva preferred), or other reporting technology — paired with the control mindset to adopt new tooling without weakening the control environment.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
