Essential Job Functions:

The Sr. Claims Manager will be responsible for the active management of EPL (Employment Practices Liability) claims, as well as private D&O claims (from an employment perspective) and fiduciary claims. Prior experience handling EPL and/or professional liability claims is preferred. Experience handling EPL claims involving universities and colleges a plus. The successful candidate will be required to evaluate coverage, draft coverage correspondence, assess appropriate reserves, undertake claims investigations, manage defense counsel and legal spend, assess liability and financial exposure, and effectively negotiate cost effective, good faith claims resolution.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree required. Juris Doctorate required.
  • 10+ years of experience in the insurance/legal profession dealing specifically with Financial and/or Professional Lines claims
  • In-depth understanding of policy language/coverage
  • Experience managing, evaluating, mediating and negotiating EPL claims. In-depth knowledge of the U.S. legal system, civil litigation and ADR proceedings
  • Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of federal and state laws applicable to various claims presented under Financial and Professional Lines policies
  • Carrier experience required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in New York, Starr Insurance Companies is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets: experience and training: licensure and certifications: and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $170,000 - $185,000.
