Ready to join a mission that matters? The future of cybersecurity starts with you.

About the Role:

This is a Senior Manager position leading our Streaming Search team. The role is open to either full-time remote work or one of our office locations.

You'll be leading a team that designs and builds a high-throughput system to partition, filter, query, and join streaming data at the scale of over three trillion events per day. Customers of this system rely on your team's work to generate everything from high-quality training data for large-scale machine learning models to actionable leads that threat hunters can use to track down malicious actors—all to fulfill our core mission of stopping breaches. You'll be managing an agile, distributed team of collaborative engineers who work on all aspects of the system from cloud and datacenter architecture down to low-level performance tuning of event handling and everything in between. If you enjoy building and leading high-performing teams, making strategic technical decisions, and tackling hard problems that don't have well-defined solutions, then you'll fit right in.

We're looking for a manager with world-class experience in leading distributed services / backend contributor teams, solid understanding of computer science fundamentals around multithreading, memory, and data structures, and the ability to guide a team working on a distributed system at CrowdStrike scale. Major plus if you have actually run streaming search teams. Our team builds a large distributed system primarily written in C++ to achieve high performance. While technical expertise is valuable, your primary focus will be on team leadership, strategic direction, and ensuring your engineers have what they need to succeed. As a leader, you'll need to foster a technically fearless environment where your team works together to find the best solution for the task at hand.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead and develop a team of engineers working on our Streaming Search and Analytics Platform

  • Shape the strategic vision for the platform's next phase of growth, focusing on query experimentation, efficient data storage, performance optimization, and streaming query language development

  • Drive technical excellence while fostering a collaborative, innovative team culture

  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to align team priorities with company objectives

  • Make critical architectural decisions that balance technical excellence with business needs

  • Mentor and grow engineering talent within your team

  • Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of a streaming platform that processes petabytes of data

  • Lead technical reviews of products and guide the development of new features and stability enhancements

  • Drive continuous improvement in service efficiency to delight our customers

  • Spearhead research and implementation of new ways for both internal stakeholders and customers to query their data efficiently

What You'll Need:

  • 5+ years of engineering management experience, preferably leading teams building distributed systems

  • Strong technical background with experience designing, building, and operating scalable streaming systems

  • Deep understanding of distributed system architecture and performance optimization

  • Ability to work with geographically distributed team

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to translate complex technical concepts to various audiences

  • Strategic thinking and ability to navigate ambiguity in large, open-ended problem spaces

  • Track record of successfully delivering complex technical projects

  • Strong people management skills with a focus on team development and mentorship

  • Experience with strongly-typed, object-oriented languages (e.g., C++, Java, C#, or similar)

  • Proficiency with Unix/Linux environments Experience with Git or similar version control workflows

Bonus Points:

Experience with distributed applications built on various data stores (RDBMS, NoSQL, streaming solutions, etc.)

  • Knowledge of RocksDB, Apache Kafka, or similar technologies

  • Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP)

  • Background in C++ applications, especially with modern CMake

  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Graphite, Prometheus, and Grafana

  • Prior leadership in cybersecurity or intelligence fields

  • History of contributions to the open source community

  • MBA or advanced technical degree

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
