What You’ll Do Here

Work alongside the VP, Corporate Communications to design and implement a comprehensive internal communications programs to support different areas of the business, including:

  • Partnership with executive team leader(s)

  • Strategy and tactics at the business segment-level i.e. the team-wide communications to achieve program goals like educating and engaging employees, and supporting them through change.

  • In partnership with team leads, strategy and tactics at the team level to support the communications goals and the overall goals and priorities for the business segment

Internal Communications Program

Starting immediately, work with leadership to lead and further evolve communication programs for segments of our business. This program will educate, engage, and support internal audiences.

  • Establish key personas – their primary connection; key characteristics such as drivers, cultural norms, ways of working; what they value.

  • Review the current communication program and consider opportunities to evolve it to support cultural identity, and employee engagement across the business segment and extend to Cengage Group, more broadly.

  • Ensure a steady cadence of visibility and leadership opportunities for business managers and leaders, ensuring they are visible within the business segment and the broader organization.

  • Collaborate with HR to drive an outstanding talent management program, including a reward & recognition program to empower and engage employees.

  • Clearly define success for the communications program and consistently measure progress against goals.

Additional responsibilities will include:

  • Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong partnerships with leaders to build credibility as a trusted partner, advisor, and strategic consultant.

  • Internal Meetings: Support senior leadership with internal meetings – for their own team and cross-functional opportunities – by developing talking points, coaching, and preparing materials.

  • Strategy and Tactical Execution: Autonomous and capable of traversing the organization with ease, earning a reputation for thinking beyond tactics and as a reliable strategic partner. Also, equally important, committed to delivering on the day-to-day work.

  • Drive Alignment & Collaboration: Support alignment between communications at all levels -- company-wide, business segment and team. Seek opportunities for cross-functional collaboration in alignment with the organization's strategy, purpose and culture.

  • Integrated Approach: While this role centers on internal communications, you will seek opportunities to improve information flow across internal and external audiences.

  • Measurement: You will outline measurable goals to measure the effectiveness of employee and executive communications programs. Analysis should be ongoing throughout a program (pre-launch, execution, post-launch), and recommendations provided continuously to boost the efficacy of each program.

Skills you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree or equivalent experience preferred

  • Minimum of 10 years related internal, or internal and external, communications experience, from program strategy development through implementation

  • Experience integrating communications programs to amplify the effectiveness of message delivery across all platforms and relative audiences

  • Proven success in building relationships and collaborating across matrixed organization

  • Experience in disseminating corporate messaging to a multitude of audiences

  • Experience using executive thought leadership to aid in company storytelling and establishing industry credibility

  • Articulate communicator with the experience and confidence to provide daily counsel to senior leaders

  • Experience with both developing strategy and implementing tactics for sophisticated communications programs

  • Excellent writing, editing, and presentation building skills, with the ability to adapt content to various leader "voices" and align to business priorities.

  • Ability to work well with employees at all levels across the organization

  • Client service mentality; excellent teammate, putting the business needs and those of the leader ahead of standard approaches; always willing to experiment with new ways to communicate to achieve the best outcomes.

  • Expertise in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint.

The full base pay range has been provided for this position. Individual base pay will vary based on work schedule, qualifications, experience, internal equity, and geographic location.  Sales roles often incorporate a significant incentive compensation program beyond this base pay range.

In this position,  you will be eligible to participate in the company’s discretionary incentive bonus program.  This position's bonus target amount, which is not guaranteed and is dependent on individual performance and overall company results among other factors, is provided below.  

20% Annual: Individual Target
$101,900.00 - $132,450.00 USD
